Since long before any states had legislation to give piercers guidance, I always enforced a strong policy about piercing minors: Without exception, the parent or legal guardian must be present with the minor to sign the release form. Each party must have a valid photo ID* . If the parent's last name and/or address is different from the minor's, there must be legal documentation to prove the relationship. (Birth certificate, divorce papers, adoption papers, marriage certificate). Court papers are required to prove a relationship with a legal guardian. • I do not pierce minors below the neck with the exception of the navel. I will pierce earlobes only, on individuals between 12 and 16 years of age. •I will not pierce children under the age of 12. • If you are under 18 but legally married I can pierce you in the state of Louisiana. You need to bring your marriage license along with valid photo ID*. • If you are a legally emancipated minor I can pierce you in the state of Louisiana. You need to bring court papers along with a valid photo ID*. Some problems I have found with piercing minors:

• They tend to be less patient and disciplined than adults, and may fail to keep dirty hands away from the area causing themselves an infection.
• They may tire of cleaning and caring for a healing piercing resulting in a variety of complications.
• The anatomy may not be fully developed, and by the time the piercee is full grown, the piercing could be in an undesirable or unattractive placement.

Part of the reason you would want to get pierced by me (in addition to the fact that I am quick, gentle, safe, and highly experienced), is that I care about doing everything the right way. *A valid photo ID is a driver's license, passport, state issued identification card or military ID. A valid school photo ID and birth certificate with state seal is acceptable for minors younger than driving age. Photocopies of any ID are not acceptable. I reserve the right to refuse service. I will not pierce anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol. I've I'm not sure if this message was an attempt at entrapment by some law enforcement agency confused that piercing is associated with child abuse or child porn. I answered as though it were a serious question, but I have my doubts:

My response: It is absolutely inappropriate for any piercer to consider performing a below-the-waist piercing on an individual younger than 18 years of age (even with parental consent)--with the exception of the navel, which is commonly performed on ages 16 and up with parental consent. Any piercer willing to perform the job is unethical, untrustworthy, and participating in a criminal act. And as a parent you could (and should) be charged with any number of crimes if you encourage or permit genital piercing of an underage child.
