I received this message from a woman who got a "triangle" piercing done in NYC, and it was nowhere near where a triangle should be placed:
I just got this piercing done at a pretty reputable studio in NYC. But after reading up (even more) and seeing even more pics online, I'm wondering if it was placed too low? Would you please see the pic attached and give me your professional opinion? Thanks!! I wish you were near, but I felt confident in the piercer I ended up choosing locally :-)

Below is an email exchange I had with a woman in the UK who got a botched VCH piercing, and then got it redone properly:
Hi! My name is S., I live in the UK. I looked at your site before getting my VCH, I am happy with my piercing but it dosn't look like any on the VCH I've seen on your site and wondering maybe he's made a mistake? It's still a bit swollen as I've only had it a few days, I hope to hear back from u soon! Thanks! S. =)
You definitely do NOT have a properly placed VCH piercing. You have a piercing located on the side of your clitoral hood. A VCH goes in the center. Further, the jewelry is not touching your clitoris, which is the thing that is potentially stimulating about the VCH piercing. Also the way the jewelry is resting, the piercing is higher on the inside of your hood than it is on the outside. This is not a proper placement and it causes your clitoral hood to be hooked over the top of the jewelry, so you're likely to get migration, scarring, or both. Additionally, you can expect that it will be uncomfortable, or downright painful.
I'd ask for my money back, take the jewelry out, and seek a more qualified piercer to do it for you.

I just got yet another message from a woman who got a totally botched VCH piercing. This was especially upsetting since she had actually been on this website to learn about genital piercings before getting hers done!
I used your site for research about a vch piercing before actually getting it. Unfortunally I got it. I was not happy with how it came out, I dont think the pictures are showing it very well, but i can actually see the barbell through where I got the piercing. I contacted the piercer and he has offered to redo it free of charge. I just wanted your opinion on if I'm completely crazy for thinking it is messed up or if I was correct for taking it out. Also, I took it out two hours ago, but I am feeling discomfort, it isn't exactly pain but it doesnt feel natural. Is there any suggestions you have? I'm doing the sea salt soaks even though I took it out until it heals. Please Help!

I receeived this message from a woman who wanted to know if she could wear gold body jewelry in a Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH) piercing:
I'm interested in a vch piercing and my question is will a 14k curved bar be appropiate for this type of piercing?

I received yet another message about a botched VCH piercing. The difference was that it was done in a studio where I do refer to a particular piercer! However, the individual I refer to wasn't available so it was done by a different piercer. BEWARE: if I don't list the individual piercer's name on my referrals page, I am NOT providing a referral to them. Some studios have piercers that vary widely in terms of skills and experience. Please be careful!!!
"Hi Elayne, How are you? I'm messaging you because I got a vch piercing about 3 days ago from XXX. The piercer you recommended wasn't in so I let another piercer at the location do it. Now I'm concerned that it wasn't done right (placement) and that she used the wrong type of jewelry. I attached is a pic that I took myself, hopefully you can let me know what's up, and what I need to do if anything. Thanks in advance."

On my guestbook I just received this AMAZING post from a woman I pierced when I was at 23rd Street Body Piercing in OKC recently:
Thank you Elayne for making the trek to Oklahoma City! Thankfully I stumbled upon your "Piercing Bible" website when I began my research on female geintal piercings! Ordered my copy, read it cover to cover (more than once!) and estatically discovered you were making a stop in OKC, just 2 short hours from where I live!!
The 3 months I eagerly waited from the time I contacted you until the actual date of our fateful appointment were spent carefully combing thru your "bible" in preparation for my piercings.
Thank you so very much for putting me at such great ease! From the moment I met you, I felt as if I had known you forever and a day! Had it not been for the fleeting, split second pinch from each piercing, I wold dare say I had just made an appointment to hang out and visit with a dear friend! I was completely at ease through the entire process, thanks in part to knowing I was completely prepared and because of you!
One amazing experience, 45 minutes, 3 piercings and 1 hug later, I walked out of the 23rd Street shop feeling as if I could do anything! So very grateful for the opportunity to meet you and your husband and for the opportunity to be pierced by THE expert in female genital piercings! After all, you wrote the book on it!

I recently received a wonderful email from a reader who got a VCH piercing for her 18th birthday. She explains that it was instrumental in reclaiming her body after abuse. Read her touching story about how a piercing was so positive and empowering:
I got my VCH piercing for my 18th birthday and it's really a thanks to you, this blog, the Piercing Bible and others who have the VCH piercing and shared their experiences.
I was sexually abused for five years when i was a kid so my body never did feel like it was completely mine until my birthday (the 17th). I feel so liberated, new, fresh and like i finally have a choice with my body-- i never knew a piercing could make someone feel this way or could help me out much more than any therapist could. Whenever i have flashbacks, or memories of the abuse, i can just smile it off now because my body finally feels like it's MINE and no one will ever be able to take it away and abuse it again.
Body modification has helped me out so much these past two years with finding myself again and gaining a strong sense of self and i feel like i owe a big thank you to you. You've enlightened me a lot on piercing (I want to be a piercer one day in the future) and have helped me realize how liberating and renewing a piercing can be-- thank you so much for being there for everyone, for writing the Piercing Bible and for being so passionate about body modification (you're a true inspiration)!

I received a question from a woman who was experiencing a very unpleasant side effect from her clitoral hood piercing:
I am so glad I found your website. I need your wisdom. I have had my vch for about two years and ever since I got it I have had a fishy scent. Prior to my piercing I had no scent at all - not to be gross, but my husband said I had no scent or taste. For example, I could be in bed for days with the flu and not shower and still not have any scent. Now, even though I wash daily I still end up with a fishy scent by the end of the day. (Sorry for the to-much-info details but I wanted to explain just how much my vagina has changed since the piercing). I clean with ivory and move the barbell back and forth. I don't have any discharge, redness, or pain. My husband said the scent is not that strong but I am horrified. I have not changed my piercing since I got it and from what the piercer told me I have a stainless steel barbell with "less than 18% nickel". I am wondering if I need to chane to another material, if I may have bacteria inside the piercing, or if the barbell possibly changed the pH of my vagina??? Should I just take it out? I am so embarrassed and would be grateful for any advice you could give me.
Thanks so much,
