I was out of town for the past week in Mexico City for the Association of Professional Piercers Seminars. It was the 4th annual seminar there, but the first one that I attended. Following the seminars, the Board of Directors had a meeting. It was a great trip and I really enjoyed Mexico City. I taught two classes there and participated in a round table discussion on piercing techniques (forceps vs. freehand). The first class was on Male Genital piercings and my co-instructor, Danny Yerna, led the class. I'd created a PowerPoint presentation for the class, and he and I had translated it into Spanish. I'm super excited and proud that I led the second class on Female Genital Piercings, and it was the first time I've ever taught a seminar in Spanish. I know my vocabulary is pretty good, but having learned from immersion (rather than in a classroom), my verbs are not conjugated properly, and I'm lacking a lot of the small connective words. But the important part is that the students said that I was clear and easy to understand. I'd sent 20 copies of The Piercing Bible to Mexico City, but between the shipping costs and duties that had to be paid, the cost came out higher than the cover price! Still, Danny (the APP International Liaison who organized the seminars and owns a studio in Mexico City) had sold them all before I even arrived! I wish I had a Spanish language version, as I know it would have sold very well there. Hopefully someday there will be versions in multiple languages!

I just received an email from a woman in Australia and my book has had an effect on her:
Dear Elayne, I have been reading a preview of your book on google books. First, thank you for allowing the preview to be posted. From what I have read, I know I need to go and purchase the book! I am a 25 year old girl (woman?), who, after much soul searching and deliberation have decided to put my nursing degree on hold and pursue body piercing as a career. Through my research I have realised I have much to learn before I can even set foot in a piercing studio as an apprentice. I stumbled upon your book after a recommendation to visit safepiercing.org. I found your writing to be clear and concise, and explained everything in detail without rambling. By reading your book I have become more confident in my desire to become a body piercer, and you have helped me understand the link between the piercer and the piercee. I know I have lots (and lots) to learn, but I think that I may be able to follow my dream. Without ever meeting me, you have played a part in this. And for that I thank you. Leah NSW, Australia
My response: Hi Leah, Thanks so much for the positive feedback. I'm thrilled that my book has proved helpful to you. I wish you all the best. Sincerely, Elayne

I got this email today from the parent of a girl who wants to be a piercer:
Dear Angel, My adult daughter Rachel is very keen on getting into the Piercing profession. She has worked at a couple of places that provide tattoo services and piercing services. The work has strengthened her resolve. Recently she asked if I could see about getting your book for her – she really wanted it signed by you. I know she would really be pleased if you addressed it to her and signed it. We live in near Vancouver Canada but have a mailing address in Lynden Washington. Would you mind addressing a book to “Rachel” and maybe wish her well? She is a fan for sure and I do my best to support my daughter – I love her dearly. I would be happy to send you a cheque or whatever method of payment you prefer. Thank you for considering my request. Sincerely, Neil
This is my response: Hi Neil, Thanks for your email. How wonderful that you are such a supportive parent! I'd be happy to personalize the book for her, but I now live in Mexico and I don't stock books here or have any means to accept payment. The Piercing Bible is being sold by the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), and when you purchase from them, you do receive a book that I signed, and 25% of the proceeds go to the organization. In any case, the APP is an organization she should definitely know about. Here is the link where my book can be found: http://www.safepiercing.org/publications/the-piercing-bible/ They do ship internationally, so you can have it sent to whichever address you prefer. She may wish to sign up for my email list in the top right corner of this site.

I saw this new review of The Piercing Bible on the Barnes & Noble website:
Most Complete Piercing Book on the Planet

Posted September 15, 2009 I am trying to become a body piercer. It is a notoriously difficult industry to integrate into. This book not only gives you a deep insight into the industry but also the standards required. It covers everything from the piercing rules, through to the equipment and different jewellery types, also different ways of aftercare and advice on what to do if something does go wrong with your piercing! Elayne also shares some personal stories from her vast experience of the body piercing world. Some are rather amusing, some not so but it makes for a very interesting read! The author also gives both Pro's and Con's to each piercing or jewellery choice, which is thorough, informative and very well researched. This book is a must for anybody interested in being a piercer or getting a number of piercings!

I found this great review on a blog by a Montreal body artist
I have to admit that anyone interested in piercings or in becoming a piercer or who already works in this profession and has not yet read this book, you must read this! I have been aware of Elayne Angel since I began my career in 93′ and have worked on clients that she has pierced and I have great respect for her dedication and knowledge. This is the most straight forward and informative book on Piercing I have ever read and I reccomend it to anyone who enjoys piercings and all that goes into it from start to finish.

I ran into a UK-based forum about piercing. (You can tell from their slang, which is quite different from the US.) The members were discussing The Piercing Bible and below are the comments I found there: • Brilliant book alert! Hi piercers & piercees, theres a bloody great book I've just bought & I think everyone would benefit from having a copy, its called "The Piercing Bible" by Elayne Angel, the incredible piercing guru responsible for Rings Of Desire Its got plenty of info for us piercers to chew over, & a lot of info for anyone wanting to receive safe & professional piercings. Its not a how to pierce book, but its a mine of info. I've not finished reading it yet, but so far so fabulous!
