I recently had an exchange of correspondence with a piercer who asked some interesting questions:
I have been piercing for 10 years now in a shop where my husband is the awesome tattoo artist. I just want to be yet another one to thank you for all of your tireless dedication to this industry. I just had a quick question about surface piercings done with polytetrafluoroethylene. At first when these surface piercings became the thing to do around here, I would perform them with the traditional bars for hips, clavicals, Madisons-you name it. I stuck them all with bars. Now this new material seems so much better for healing and does not leave the same scars that the bars do. I just wanted to get your opinion on it. Which is better, the polytetrafluoroethylene or the traditional surface bars?

I got a message from a gentleman with a healed Prince Albert piercing. He was alarmed at seeing some blood after masturbating:
Hello, this is a bit scary. I got a PA a while back. About 5 years back to be exact. All went well, I've since managed to stretch to an 8G. Two days ago, I switched to a captive bead ring. This took a little work, as the bead did not want to pop into the jewelry.
Weird thing is, I um. Well I pleasured myself today, and to my horror was a bunch of blood mixed with semen.
1) It doesn't look swollen, infected, etc
2) There was absolutely no pain before during or after this happened, nor while urinating, rinsing, anything.
3) It sometimes feels a tiny bit sensitive, but nothing I haven't felt before when adjusting to new jewelry.
It definitely freaked me out as the only other time it ever bled was 5 years ago when I first got the piercing.

I recently received a very interesting piercing question from a piercer who is unsure of what to do when it becomes clear that a client is getting genital piercings for the experience of being pierced, and who does not really want to wear jewelry:
I have a 74-year-old gentleman who early last week came in and requested 4 8 gauge frenum piercings and an 8 gauge prince albert. Anatomy was suitable for the frenums but not quite for the P.A. so I made him aware and performed that piercing at a 10 gauge instead.
Everything was well and good, he was a more than satisfied client and went on his way. 3 days later he came in again and had taken them all out and wanted them all performed again. The P.A. was easily tapered back open and was not in need of a repierce. To redo the Frenums I just offset them a safe distance from the previous spots and re pierced them. The fact that he had had the procedure performed and then taken them out and had them redone within 3 days raised a few questions in my mind but i decided that I had no reason to not believe him when he said that he had just gotten frustrated with them so he took them out and realized doing so was a mistake.
Today, however, the gentleman came in to the shop again (3 days after the re-pierce, 6 days after the initial procedure) and had taken them all out again and wanted them re pierced yet again.

I received this message from a piercee who was experiencing problems with his Prince Albert piercing:
Finally I found someone who might have an answer. I got a PA about 3 years ago now. All went well and I was able to size up to an 8mm / 0 gauge after about 2 1/2 years. I wore the 8mm 24/7 for about 3 months when I noticed there was only about 5mm of skin between the piercing and the urethra.
I've taken the ring out completely now to see if the hole will close down a bit but its still much the same size. I dont want to wear a smaller ring in case the skin breaks thru completley. Any ideas? Should I leave it out for longer? It's been out for 8 months now. Would I be right in thinking that a smaller ring, although not heavy, would prevent any kind of healing?

I received a message from a man who has had his Prince Albert piercing for years, and it suddenly started bleeding, but the reason was not hard to figure out:
I have had PA for many years with no issues and much enjoyment and pleasure Recently started anew relationship in whichthe sex is really rough. This morning I noticed a slight blood discharge from the piercing. I'm concerned and am curious of what is going on and what should be done.

I recently returned home following a wonderful trip to Philadelphia. I pierced for 6 days at Infinite Body Piercing. That was my longest piercing trip to date. But last time demand was so high, I was unable to set appointments for everyone who was interested, so I decided to work a few extra days.
Over those 6 days I did 118 piercings on 87 clients! They came from 12 different states (as far away as Arizona and Texas!) specifically to be pierced by me. I also had some clients come down from Ontario, Canada. What an honor that people trust me so much that they are willing to travel such distances to be pierced by me!
As usual, most of my clients came in for genital piercings. I did 55 vertical clitoral hood (VCH) piercings, and 24 triangle piercings, among others. I also did a few apadravyas, scrotum piercings, frenum piercings, and Prince Albert piercings for the guys. Additionally, I did a few nostril piercings, eyebrow piercings, and also a navel piercing, a tongue piercing, and a philtrum (upper lip center) piercing.
While I was there I got to enjoy some Thai and Indian food (two of my favorite cuisines that I can't get at home). An extra special treat was visiting an Ethiopian restaurant, as I love that food, and definitely cannot get any of that in Mexico where I live!
On my day off, I visited the Eastern State Penitentiary, which was really fascinating.

I received this message today:
Hello Elayne, I was recently cleaning my apadravya and noticed that I have what looks like a tear or some sort of injury on the head of my penis. My piercing is fairly new, I believe it is 4 months old. I don't know if this is simply because it's still fresh or if I have something more serious to deal with. I have been sexually active but I haven't done anything rough or overexerting. I have worn protection and I haven't had any pain during sex. I have included a picture of the wound. It doesn't hurt, but it is (VERY SLIGHTLY) more tender to the touch than the rest of my penis. If you could respond to this ASAP then I would greatly appreciate it. This has been worrying me a lot. Thank you very much.
