This great review was recently posted on Amazon.com and I can tell this guy totally felt like he got his money's worth:
Thanks for the positive feedback, Joel. I appreciate it. And FYI--I didn't set the price for the book--my publisher did that. They also made me cut out about 22,000 words from the original version! But I did my best to get it all in there in the space I was allotted.Inkslinger, August 2, 2009This is more than what I expected. I am half way through reading it and have learned more than what I had bargained for as far as the price on this book. It was very well put together and I hope she has not left anything out of the book. Great reference book for a piercer. As a matter of fact I will recommend this book to an online friend I recently found as well as others who are interested in this field of body art. She could have charged more for this book. Just my two cents' worth.

Yet another 5-star review! This one is from a piercer with a lot of experience. She said she's already used it to help her clients be better informed:

I got an email about this very unusual (and dangerous!) piercing:
Hi Elayne, My name is Chris. I just had a question for you and would like your input. I just got my ankle pierced between the ankle bones and the achille's tendon. I've had it in for two weeks and its a 14 gauge PTFE. The piercing is great and everybody either thinks I'm crazy or they love it. It's healing just fine, a little sore but I was expecting that. My question is, do u see any long term damage or and problem with this piercing at all? If you could please email me back I would love your advice. ChristopherMy response: Hi Christopher, I'll openly admit to you that this isn't a piercing I would do or recommend. As my book, The Piercing Bible, describes it in the "Risky Piercings" section:
Piercing behind bone, tendon, or other anatomical structure can cause excessive bleeding, nerve damage, and/or loss of function. So, the risks are pretty serious and certainly should cause you to be very careful with it and to take it out if you experience any loss of function. I received this message on my Facebook page from a reader who is hungrily devouring my book and finding it useful as well:
Hi Elayne Just a quick message to say a big THANK YOU for writing The Piercing Bible. I am still relatively new to the art and felt I wasn't getting enough information from my trainer. Needless to say, your book was a God-send. I'm halfway through and only got it three days ago! I have already applied some of your advice in my work with great success. Thanks again! TThat's absoutely wonderful feedback, but I feel concerned that her mentor isn't providing her with information that she feels she needs....

I got this lovely message on Facebook:
I bought your book at amazon and am on page 28. I am glad to say that I am already enjoying your book. Very well put together. Looking forward to being friends in here. Oh. I've been piercing for 4 years now and tattooing for 5.
How cool that he's enjoying my book already. He'd hardly gotten past the front cover when he decided to find me on Facebook. Nice!

The subject of body jewelry as it relates to airport security was discussed on the Travelite Blog. This is what it said by way of introducing me as the expert quoted in the article:
One person who would know is professional body piercer Elayne Angel. Elayne is not only covered in various forms of ink and metal herself, but she is also one of the pioneers in professional body piercing, a field she personally helped expand decades ago. Elayne has served multiple terms on the board of the Association of Professional Piercers as an advocate for field safety, and her most recent project has been authoring The Piercing Bible, the definitive guide for consumers and professional body piercers.Check it out. There's lots of great information througout the site, and if you travel, be assured you'll find plenty of great tips and ideas.

The Piercing Bible is essentially a reference book and, as such, it certainly belongs in libraries. I think it should be available in ALL community libraries, and definitely in all college and university libraries too--especially for schools that deal with medical specialties such as nursing schools. Here is a resource so you can check to see if it is in your local library! So far it shows that The Piercing Bible is in 80 libraries.

I received this message from a reader on my Facebook page. How amazing to hear that getting his Prince Albert piercing has drastically changed his self-esteem and perception of his body!
After doing a lot of reading and talking my co-worker Nycole, I decided to pierce my PA. (This was her first.) Much of the information we read and studied came from you. This piercing has drastically changed my personal opinion on my body view. Your work means so much to me and even more so now. Thank you 1000 times over.It is so validating to my work to get feedback like this (though I want to reiterate that the book is not intended as a "how-to-pierce" guide).
