Here is a question from a woman concerned about piercing while she is still nursing:
Hi, I was hoping that you could please give me some advice. I'm wanting to get a tragus piercing but am still breastfeeding my second child who is now 12 months old. (I have had a navel piercing for many years with no problems and had a tattoo many years ago as well.) I read the website on safe piercing and it suggests to wait for 3 months after the birth before getting any form of piercing. My son is 12 months. I was speaking to the piercer at Polymorph in Sydney today and they mentioned a few things that I was hoping you could clarify. Firstly they suggested that there is an issue of adrenalin going through my breastmilk which could send my baby hyperactive. I'm not so concerned with that as an issue unless you suggest it's a major, major problem. Secondly, the piercer was hesitant to pierce my tragus while I'm still breastfeeding as a concern of acquiring an infection and it passing through my breastmilk to my son. I am only feeding my son still on average twice a day and he is on full solids as well. The website on safe piercing doesn't seem to suggest not piercing at this stage. What is your opinion? The guys at Polymorph were very helpful in trying to help me make my decision but I thought I would enquire further before making my choice to pierce at this point as I obviously don't want to risk an infection and then passing it on to my child. Please advise?? Do you think it is safe to pierce now? Look forward to hearing from you. Regards, TrishIf you are in good health, I believe you should be able to get a piercing at this time.

Question: Dear Angel, After having my Clitoral Hood pierced 3 times already in the last five years (VCH every time), I am now looking at the 4th time and would like your advice. My first VCH was pierced in Australia and the piercer used a ring instead of a barbell. While very stimulating for the first few weeks, the ring eventually became uncomfortable (twisting) and also started to grow out (move to the bottom end of my clitoral hood so I took it out). My second VCH was pierced in New Zealand and never really did anything for me. It was a barbell, but I felt that it was placed too high and eventually I took it out since my partner back then did not like it. My third VCH was an "engagement piercing" along with nipple piercings when I got engaged to my husband. Again a barbell and while slightly more sensation then with the second it never stimulated me as much as the first VCH had done the first few weeks. Due to an operation I had to remove the piercing last year and before I knew it the whole had grown closed. I am now looking to go for my 4th but since my experiences with the VCH so far have been only lukewarm (except for a first few great weeks with #1) i would be interested to find out if my anatomy is suitable for a Triangle or even clitoris piercing. Can you help me? Answer: Did you have a professional piercer check (by using a small gauge insertion taper first) to see if the channel had merely shrunk rather than closed? It is not uncommon that a VCH, once healed, can remain open without jewelry in place. They do tend to shrink down, but there may not be a need to re-pierce if the channel is still there. Also, depending on the amount of scar tissue that may have formed as a result of multiple piercings, it may be difficult to have another one placed in the area. I also have some questions for you: did you ever wear a ring in any of the subsequent piercings after the initial one? Maybe it was an issue of the jewelry styles rather than the piercings?

Since I get so many piercing questions, I thought it would be good to share the information I provide with anyone who is interested. So, I'm going to be posting the questions and answers as they come along as a regular feature of this blog.

The Question: Hi, I hope you don't mind my asking a question I'm very concerned with as I've heard you are the best and would trust your advice. I just got my nipples pierced on Saturday. I have flat nipples to begin with, they aren't inverted - just not erect without stimulation or being cold. I did some online research beforehand and from what I read found that it should cause them to stay a little more "perky." The piercer marked saw them flat, in fact she marked them flat and I'm not sure she ever saw them erect. I was so nervous, I didn't even realize that I hadn't gotten to check the markings myself before they were pierced. Now that it's been a few days, I'm noticing something that's irking me. On the right side, one side the CBR seems to come out of the nipple itself, almost at the edge of it at an angle, but on the other side it's further back and seems to be out of the areola or behind the nipple instead. If I look front on in my bathroom mirror they're even and everything, but up close something just doesn't seem... lined up. Aesthetically it's a bit annoying, but what I'm really worried about is if this is going to cause me a bigger problem. More prone to reject, damage to the nipple etc. What should I do? Learn to live with it, or take them out? Could I get it redone later and perhaps get them pierced erect so it lines up better? Or is nipple piercing just not for me? Is this not even an issue? I'm so confused.
