I ran into an article positing the question: "What Will Our Descendants Think of Body Piercing"? Part of it reads:
But what will the archaeologists of the future think, when in 1,000 years or so, they start pulling up embalmed bodies and the like with pierced eyebrows, nipples and bellybuttons, from lots of different locations around the planet, and probably having no record of what it was about or why it happened at all? Just considering the amount of details that we’ve lost from an era less than 100 years ago has got to make you wonder exactly what those descendants will think of this society where tribe members are scattered across the earth with only body piercings to tie them together.
It is an interesting concept to consider. Though, of the pierced individuals I know who have passed on, their body jewelry was removed prior to burial. I am not sure if that is standard practice or not. My friend who was cremated willed his body jewelry to his good friends, and they had it sterilized and wear it in their bodies so his memory and “part of him” lives on inside them. That’s pretty cool! Moreover, in 1000 years, hopefully they’ll still have the record of my book, The Piercing Bible, which explains all about every aspect of modern body piercing. Or maybe not.... I did an interview for a site called AKGmag.com. It is a free website for writers, authors and others who'd like to promote themselves, get free publicity for their work, increase visitors to their websites and to help sell their services, work and books. Freelance writers and authors can post articles, press releases, book excerpts, for hire info and other materials, all of which will be syndicated across the web. At the same time akgmag.com is also a resource for publishers, webmasters, businesses and other interested parties who are looking to hire writers, authors and speakers for various writing and speaking engagements. It's all good! CHECK OUT THE INTERVIEW HERE.

I just found out from my editor, Lisa, that The Piercing Bible was reprinted last month! She said,
"The fabulous news is that we reprinted the book last month. Not only does this mean that your royalty statements will be revving up, but also it’s good news for sales levels in general since it means we sold through the first print run in under a year."
Well, not only did we sell out the first print run in under a year, it was actually under half a year: The Piercing Bible came out in May, and it was reprinted in September! She also told me that less than 25% of those copies have sold through standard bookstores and over 75% of the sales came through alternative venues like online or specialty shops. She encouraged me:
"So all of your efforts are helping to contribute to the main piece of the sales—whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!"
I'm so delighted!!!

I just saw the latest review of The Piercing Bible on Google books:
User Review - Johnny T This book is the best! I have been piercing for three years and i thought i knew a lot, but i recently picked up this book and it opened a whole new world for me! If you like body art it is an amazing ... More book to read and if you are learning how to perform body art then it is a must have! I have introduced all of my co-workers, friends and family to this book and all of them agree that it is great!
I also noticed that I have a total of 11 reviews there that have 5 stars, and none of them have any less than that, which is pretty wonderful and exciting!

I was out of town for the past week in Mexico City for the Association of Professional Piercers Seminars. It was the 4th annual seminar there, but the first one that I attended. Following the seminars, the Board of Directors had a meeting. It was a great trip and I really enjoyed Mexico City. I taught two classes there and participated in a round table discussion on piercing techniques (forceps vs. freehand). The first class was on Male Genital piercings and my co-instructor, Danny Yerna, led the class. I'd created a PowerPoint presentation for the class, and he and I had translated it into Spanish. I'm super excited and proud that I led the second class on Female Genital Piercings, and it was the first time I've ever taught a seminar in Spanish. I know my vocabulary is pretty good, but having learned from immersion (rather than in a classroom), my verbs are not conjugated properly, and I'm lacking a lot of the small connective words. But the important part is that the students said that I was clear and easy to understand. I'd sent 20 copies of The Piercing Bible to Mexico City, but between the shipping costs and duties that had to be paid, the cost came out higher than the cover price! Still, Danny (the APP International Liaison who organized the seminars and owns a studio in Mexico City) had sold them all before I even arrived! I wish I had a Spanish language version, as I know it would have sold very well there. Hopefully someday there will be versions in multiple languages!

I just received an email from a woman in Australia and my book has had an effect on her:
Dear Elayne, I have been reading a preview of your book on google books. First, thank you for allowing the preview to be posted. From what I have read, I know I need to go and purchase the book! I am a 25 year old girl (woman?), who, after much soul searching and deliberation have decided to put my nursing degree on hold and pursue body piercing as a career. Through my research I have realised I have much to learn before I can even set foot in a piercing studio as an apprentice. I stumbled upon your book after a recommendation to visit safepiercing.org. I found your writing to be clear and concise, and explained everything in detail without rambling. By reading your book I have become more confident in my desire to become a body piercer, and you have helped me understand the link between the piercer and the piercee. I know I have lots (and lots) to learn, but I think that I may be able to follow my dream. Without ever meeting me, you have played a part in this. And for that I thank you. Leah NSW, Australia
My response: Hi Leah, Thanks so much for the positive feedback. I'm thrilled that my book has proved helpful to you. I wish you all the best. Sincerely, Elayne

I was excited to find that The Piercing Bible is now available in over 100 libraries (104 as of today, to be exact). I found the information here. I think it should be available in ALL community libraries, and in all College and University libaries. Certainly, it should be in all schools with a focus in the Health Care fields. There's SO much valuable information in it that should be standard fare for anyone who might end up dealing with pierced patients.
