Don't Get a Botched Piercing!

I've been piercing for a long time now--since the 1980s. It has taken a while longer for mainstream society to catch up with my interest, but piercing is now pretty widespread, and has been quite popular since the mid 1990s. There’s certainly a whole lot of it going on. According to information from jewelry supply companies, demand is enormous

Accidental Clitoris PiercingNote that just because someone has been piercing for a long time, that does not automatically mean they’re doing a good job. (And in many cases, piercers do overstate their experience and time spent in the industry.) Especially when it comes to genital piercings, many so-called “professionals” have little or no training. And it definitely shows in their work.

So, I would have hoped that the overall level of competency of piercers would be elevated by now. My expectation would be that most people were getting properly placed piercings with high quality jewelry of the proper style and fit.

Kudos to Monique Escamilla at Electric Ladyland in New Orleans!

I have a page here where I refer to other piercers. And I just got a message from a piercee who used one of those referrals and is thrilled with his piercing experience and the work that he had done.

Kudos to Monique Escamilla of Electric Ladyland Tattoo and Piercing in New Orleans, LA. I'm discussing a possible guest piercing trip there toward the end of October or beginning of November. Of course if I set dates, I'll make the announcement here on my site.

My Wings Logo as a Tattoo on a Piercer

This photo shows me with Rich Hartwick, a Detroit-based piercer with whom I have worked for many years. He asked me a while back if I would be okay with him getting a tattoo of my wings logo. He's not the first to ask, but I do think it may be the largest tattooed incarnation of the iconic wings. Of course I said yes; he's a dear friend, an excellent piercer, and a wonderful human being.

In fact, Rich was among my inspirations for becoming vegan. He has always been encouraging and supportive, but never too forceful about it. The photo was taken at Iconic Tattoo and Piercing, which had just opened in September, when I was there. It is a beautiful studio!

Rich is also among the piercers I refer to. His information is here:

Lenny Kravitz and Piercing

Lenny Kravitz has more than just one piercing. But a particular and very special ring came before the public eye during a wardrobe malfunction when his leather trousers ripped open as he jammed on his guitar during a concert in Stockholm, Sweden on August 3, 2015. The pubic piercing I did on Lenny's private parts many years ago became public.

The concertgoers in his audience, along with a huge quantity of lookie-loos all across the Internet gawked and talked. I guess they call such areas "private parts" for a reason, but celebrities are not afforded the same courtesy as the rest of us mortals. He had been quite public about being into piercing and had previously been professionally photographed showing off his nipple and genital piercings. But this exposure brought a whole new level of scrutiny and gossip.

Lenny was not only a repeat client, but also a good friend. We met initially at Gauntlet in Los Angeles (circa 1991) when he came in to get a nostril piercing to match the one he already wore on the other side. I pierced it for him then, and some months later I also pierced a friend he brought to the studio. We later we became reacquainted after he bought a home in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where I had moved and opened my studio, Rings of Desire. He saw me in a restaurant and came over to my table.

Client Testimonials

I added a Client Testimonials page to my site so that the positive feedback I've received from my clients can be shared with others--especially prospective clients.

So if you're thinking about getting pierced by me, I suggest taking a look there to read about the experiences of people who have come to me for their piercings.
