The Piercing Bible was quoted in an article on "ehow.com" entitled "Reasons for Having a Tongue Ring."

Here's what it said:

Fashion

  • In the 1990s, professional basketball player Dennis Rodman and pop singer Janet Jackson helped turn piercing into an industry. The Piercing Bible, written in 2009, suggests that it was depictions of pierced bodies in television that "essentially inspired the creation of body-piercing as a full-fledged industry." Pop icons of the 1990s brought the rebellious punk-piercings of their generation into the mainstream, transforming the meaning behind body piercings of virtually every kind --- including tongue rings. Ironically, according to a 2001 survey in Clinical Nursing Research, 62 percent of people with piercings who were surveyed said they had done so "to express their individuality."
