The Piercing Bible

Wonderful Review on A Writer's Reading Room

I ran into a wonderful review of The Piercing Bible on this blog: "A Writer's Reading Room"
The name of this book says it all. Not only does Angel offer sound advice for all types of piercings, but she gives cultural history, pre and post care instructions, information about body type and compatible piercings, health risks and management, sex and piercings, and information about traveling through airports or visiting the doctor with piercings that cannot easily be removed. She even offers advice to the frustrated parent. These are only a few of the many topics Angel covers in this 300 page Piercing Bible–there’s even an index for keyword searches. I purchased this book on a whim, even though I rarely ever do more than flip through a non fiction book, but I sat down to read a couple of chapters and discovered that four hours had passed and I had read most of the book cover to cover. Elaynes writing is thourough and informative, and it has broadened my opinions and misconceptions I had of many body piercings. If you have been toying with the idea of getting a piercing, or have had many, or if you are a piercer yourself–this book will provide you with two decades of expertise from the world’s most knowledgeable piercer.

"Should Have Charged More"

This great review was recently posted on Amazon.com and I can tell this guy totally felt like he got his money's worth:
5.0 out of 5 stars Inkslinger, August 2, 2009
By Joel Lopez (Brownsville, TX)
This is more than what I expected. I am half way through reading it and have learned more than what I had bargained for as far as the price on this book. It was very well put together and I hope she has not left anything out of the book. Great reference book for a piercer. As a matter of fact I will recommend this book to an online friend I recently found as well as others who are interested in this field of body art. She could have charged more for this book. Just my two cents' worth.
Thanks for the positive feedback, Joel. I appreciate it. And FYI--I didn't set the price for the book--my publisher did that. They also made me cut out about 22,000 words from the original version! But I did my best to get it all in there in the space I was allotted.

Two Thumbs Up

Yet another 5-star review! This one is from a piercer with a lot of experience. She said she's already used it to help her clients be better informed:

Thank you Elayne Angel for writing this book. I have already used it to help my clients become better informed about the piercing they want to receive from me. Although 13 years in the business has left me very well informed, I did learn many new things about the sociology of piercing and body modification. Also Elayne's years of experience was so well documented that it was like attending a convention of the A.P.P. only a lot less costly!

The Piercing Bible "A God-send"

I received this message on my Facebook page from a reader who is hungrily devouring my book and finding it useful as well:
Hi Elayne Just a quick message to say a big THANK YOU for writing The Piercing Bible. I am still relatively new to the art and felt I wasn't getting enough information from my trainer. Needless to say, your book was a God-send. I'm halfway through and only got it three days ago! I have already applied some of your advice in my work with great success. Thanks again! T
That's absoutely wonderful feedback, but I feel concerned that her mentor isn't providing her with information that she feels she needs....

Positive Feedback

I got this lovely message on Facebook:
I bought your book at amazon and am on page 28. I am glad to say that I am already enjoying your book. Very well put together. Looking forward to being friends in here. Oh. I've been piercing for 4 years now and tattooing for 5.
How cool that he's enjoying my book already. He'd hardly gotten past the front cover when he decided to find me on Facebook. Nice!

The Piercing Bible Featured

The subject of body jewelry as it relates to airport security was discussed on the Travelite Blog. This is what it said by way of introducing me as the expert quoted in the article:
One person who would know is professional body piercer Elayne Angel. Elayne is not only covered in various forms of ink and metal herself, but she is also one of the pioneers in professional body piercing, a field she personally helped expand decades ago. Elayne has served multiple terms on the board of the Association of Professional Piercers as an advocate for field safety, and her most recent project has been authoring The Piercing Bible, the definitive guide for consumers and professional body piercers.
Check it out. There's lots of great information througout the site, and if you travel, be assured you'll find plenty of great tips and ideas.

The Powerful Prince Albert Piercing

I received this message from a reader on my Facebook page. How amazing to hear that getting his Prince Albert piercing has drastically changed his self-esteem and perception of his body!
After doing a lot of reading and talking my co-worker Nycole, I decided to pierce my PA. (This was her first.) Much of the information we read and studied came from you. This piercing has drastically changed my personal opinion on my body view. Your work means so much to me and even more so now. Thank you 1000 times over.
It is so validating to my work to get feedback like this (though I want to reiterate that the book is not intended as a "how-to-pierce" guide).

Now In New Orleans

Signed copies of The Piercing Bible are now available in my old stomping grounds: New Orleans. You can pick one up at NOLA Tattoo at 8120 Hampson Street; Uptown New Orleans near the Riverbend. Call them at (504) 524-6147 if you have questions. If you're in the market for a piercing, I highly recommend Pat Roig. He apprenticed under me and pierced at my French Quarter specialty studio, Rings of Desire, (closed following hurricane Katrina) for over 10 years. He's an excellent, highly experienced piercer, and a heck of a nice guy, too. If you're looking to get tattooed, I highlty suggest NOLA Tattoo's own Walt Clark. He is extremely talented and also a super greaty guy. He inked the flowers that cover my hands--a miniature version of the floral vines that cover my arms.
