Association of Professional Piercers Annual Conference-2011

I just got back from an amazing trip to Las Vegas for the Association of Professional Piercers annual Conference and Expo. It was held at Bally's Hotel and Casino, which was a nice change from the past 2 years at the Tropicana, and a really nice step up from the prior 7 at the Riviera.

VCH Questions and Body Image Issues

Below is some correspondence I had with a woman who did book in to have me do her VCH piercing and a pair of outer labia piercings:

Elayne,

I have a question about the VCH.  I pretty much need to use a vibrator on my clit if I want to orgasm (masturbation or during intercourse), and, while I've been interested in the VCH, I'm concerned that the jewelry and the vibrator will make unpleasant rattling noises when they come in contact.  Are there ways around this (either with changes to the vibrator material—currently plastic—or ways of moving the jewelry around during sexual activity)? S.

Hi S.,
It is true that contact with a vibrator against body jewelry will result in a sound, not everyone considers it unpleasant. ; ) You could try non-metallic jewelry (after healing), or, like some women, you may find that the additional direct clitoral stimulation from the jewelry makes the vibrator superfluous. Certainly nobody can make any promises, but if you're interested in the VCH, and anatomically suited to it, then I think it is worth a try. There are a lot of variables involved including unique human anatomy, body jewelry size, style, and material, personal preferences for stimulation, different sexual activities.... So it is the kind of thing you'd need to try out to see how it works for you.

Cheek Piercing Question

I received a question from a piercee who had gotten her cheeks pierced:

I got my cheeks pierced last Saturday. It didn't hurt at all and I was really happy with them because I had been wanting it done for so long. They aren't too far back, they are perfect. BUT.. the next day they were really swollen and have been getting more and more swollen everyday. The balls on the inside of my mouth are digging into my cheeks and I have no way to contact my piercer since I lost her card and it was done at a street fair and that is gone now. When i push the ball from the inside out, puss comes out.  It's a yellowish white color. All around the piercings on the outside is hard. I really don't want to take the piercings out since I have wanted them for so long and spent so much money on getting them done. I can't even go to a local shop because nobody around here does cheek piercings. (Nobody ever wanted to pierce them for me in the shops because of the risks, that's why I think it was so expensive) I also heard that if it is infected, (which I really hope it isn't) taking out the piercing could trap the infection inside when the hole closes... I've been cleaning them with saline solution and rinsing my mouth with water and the salt that the piercer gave me, and I am also taking Ibuprofen for the swelling and eating lots of ice and putting ice on my cheeks. I really need your advice! Thanks.

Body Jewelry Styles: Captive Circular Barbell for Pubic Piercing

I received a message from a reader with a question about a certain style of body jewelry:

in your book under the male pubic piercing section it says to use a captive circular barbell for this piercing and i really like the idea. is this a piece i will have to make or do you know where to buy them as i cannot find them anywhere. Steve

My reply:

Hi Steve,

Any studio that sells circular barbells and captive beads should be able to put one together for you.

Captive Circular Barbell

It is a design I invented by combining those two ordinary body jewelry items! It is just a matter of finding the right size captive bead, and sometimes adjusting the gap between the circular barbell balls by slightly narrowing or widening the ring. It is super easy to do for anyone who is familiar with body jewelry.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
Elayne

Awsome, thank you. I really appreciate your help and love your book. I really enjoy knowing what to expect and how procedures are supposed to go along with proper placement. My peircer and I always talk about everything before we begin and I like that what he says almost always mimics your book.

Question About Tongue Piercing Jewelry

I received a message from a piercee who is concerned about the size of the tongue jewelry in his new piercing:

So recently i got my tongue pierced, and ive been taking care of it rather well if i dont say so myself but something is bugging me, and i have asked my piercer and he says its fine but it still bugs me. You know how when you get your tongue pierced the ball of the barbell creates that crater? well the ball of my piercing is all the way sunken into it and i can't see it when my tongue is laying relaxed in my mouth. But i can push the piercing up and the ball will pop out of the crater just fine but will always sink in after. Now the guy who pierced my tongue said that this is fine and that my tongue is just swollen and this will go away, but for some reason the people I talked to about this ( who have their tongues pierced as well) hasnt encountered their ball sinking into their crater this badly. So im just a over worring person.Im wondering if something happened or im just that small percent of people where this happens all time and im just not aware of it.

If you can help me thank you so much !

Sam

Questions about Piercing Migration and Rejection

I received this message:

I have heard that surface piercings, eyebrow, navel, anti eyebrow and some others, have a tendency to reject. I was wondering if there are some ways you could prevent or slow down the rejection process for these piercings? If it does start to reject and you take the jewelry out are there fluctuations in rejection risk( more or less risk) that would possibly result in a different outcome if you had it repierced? And also what are some signs to tell if a piercing is rejecting? Thanks! G.
