A Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH) Piercing with "Bubble" (with photos)

VCH (Clitoral Hood) piercing with "bubble"I got a message from a woman who was having some problems with her VCH piercing (which I did not perform for her--though this particular healing problem can crop up even when everything is done properly).

Hi Elayne, I'm having issues with my VCH piercing. It began after being agitated after sex (it seemed to be healing fine at the time). I noticed it stung sometimes when I sat down, sometimes when I walked. Upon closer examination, I noticed something that looks like an extra bit of skin under the top ball. I paid extra attention to it during cleaning, and noticed there was a bit of (off-white) discharge. I started doing soaks, the discharge went away, it stopped stinging, but the extra skin didn't go away. I did that for about 1.5 weeks.

This morning, I woke up and the discharge came back and it slightly stings again. I just did a soak... But I'm not sure what else to do.

In reading your book, I think it may be a keloid, but I'm not sure. Maybe an abscess (but I don't feel any hard localized mass). If it is a keloid, should it just be taken out? How can I be sure there's no infection still inside the piercing?

Failed Navel Piercings--To Repierce, or Not To Repierce

I got a message from a woman who had her navel pierced on multiple occasions without success:

Hi,
I wondered if you could help please. I'v now had my belly button peirced 5 times over the years and Scars from multiple navel piercingsevery time it grows out within a few month. The bar comes right to the surface so there's no longer any skin holdin it in and just a scab. I really don't no why this is happening I look after it well. I have my ears peirced since been a baby and never had any problems. The scar I'm left with is quite big and each time I used to get it peirced behind the scar. I really would like to have this peircing and for it to heal fully which it never has. Please can u advise if there is anything I could do or to just give it up as a bad job :(

Thanks for your time I look forward to your reply.

Did you do anything different to try for a different outcome? Alternate care or jewelry material? If you do things the same way, you can expect the same results.

Prince Albert (Penis Piercing) Questions and Answers

I received a lot of questions about Prince Albert piercings from a man who was interested in getting one. Below is our correspondence:

Hi Elayne...Saw you were going to be in Philly and I missed you at Infinite (I live in Conn.).  I'm what you  might call an "older guy (over 50) and have been putting off getting a PA for years.  Well, I'm ready but I want a seasoned pro like yourself.  Who might you recommend?  I know there are no safe piercing.org recommended in Conn., and I'll be back in my home town of Philly in late Aug.  Anyone in particular at infinite you'd recommend for a PA?  Thanks much!

Sorry I missed you in Philly last month; I would have loved to pierce you. Yes, I do have a referral at Infinite, and his name is Kellan. You'll be in good hands with him. All of my referrals information is on this page of my site:

Let me know how it goes, and if you do see someone I recommend, be sure to send my warmest regards.

Nostril Piercing Placement Concern (With Photo)

I received a message from a woman who had a nostril piercing problem:

Nostril Piercing

I have been having difficulty accepting the placement of my nose piercing lately. When I first got it pierced back in march it was placed perfectly and I was completely happy with it. About a month ago I woke up with no piercing and a tiny bump covering my piercing hole. I just used another nose stud to push through the bump to save the piercing, and although it worked I think I "re-pierced" it tiny bit off from the original opening of the hole. Now to me my piercing sits back a little too much and also tilts back a little. I just would really appreciate your opinion on whether I should take out the piercing and let it close to get it re-pierced again by a professional. Thanks so much!

My reply:

If you hate it every time you look at it, then that would be a reason to take it out. If you go back and forth sometimes feeling fine about it, then it might be best just to let it stay.

Septum Piercing Placement Concern (With Photos)

I received a message from a woman who got her septum pierced and she was not happy with the placement:

septum piercing (not properly placed)My question is quite similar to another that I saw on your blog who also got a wrongly placed septum.

I went to a known and recommended piercer on Wednesday, but she placed the septum incorrectly.
The piercing has been placed in the thick cartilage above the 'sweet spot'.

So it's very high up my nose and not aesthetically pleasing.

My question now is: do I immediately take out the piercing? Can that damage the cartilage (I read somewhere that it can splinter if you take it out)?

It still hurts. Also cause the piercer readjusted the needle after poking it. Which means I have a small second wound under the piercing.

I'd love to get it repierced in the right place, I can find my 'sweet spot' very easily, so I'm sure there's enough room. How long should I wait to get it redone?

I'm really disappointed about this experience. I hope you can give me some advice, 'cause I'm a bit lost now.

Thank you!

My reply:

Sorry to hear about your piercing. If you're not happy with the placement (and I understand why you're not), then you should take out the jewelry ASAP. Don't worry about "splintering the cartilage"--that sounds like an urban myth to me.

"This Book Has Saved My Life"

I got this amazing comment on my Facebook page from a reader:
This book has saved my life as an amateur piercer. There was so much that I thought I knew, and I realized when I read the book that I've been almost completely in the dark during my whole piercing career. The Piercing Bible has been so enlightening, I am grateful for your wisdom and extensive knowledge, Elayne. Thanks so much!

Yet ANOTHER Accidental Clitoris Piercing (Botched VCH) Hood Piercing

Argh! I received yet another message from a woman who went in requesting a vertical clitoral hood (VCH) piercing and ended up getting her hood pierced to her clitoral glans pierced due to visiting an unqualified, untrained piercer. She wrote:

Yet ANOTHER Accidental Clitoris Piercing (VCH requested)

I recently got a VCH piercing but I think its not placed right. As you can see the piercing does not come through the hood, the lower ball is too far down. When i got the piercing it was very painful and a lot of blood came out.

My reply:
I'm sure it was very painful, because that is NOT a hood piercing: YOU HAVE HAD YOUR CLITORIS PIERCED!

Your hood is actually pierced to your clitoris. You're going to need to take that out but you should talk to the owner of the business and get your money back.

Where did you get this done?

She wrote again:

I had thought it was pierced through that from the pain i went through.

I will try and remove it myself as i don't want to go back to the place that did it.
I got it done in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland.

I was going to go to a piercing shop in Belfast tomorrow to see if they would remove it for me, as I don't want to make it worse.

Then she said:

Vertical Navel piercing with Ring as Initial Jewelry

Yet another recent message from a woman who got a navel piercing and she didn't think it was done properly:

Navel piercing with ring
Hi! I got my belly button peirced at a body peircing shop called "the purple scorpian" in Salem, MA. The lady there wasn't friendly but not rude either. She was straight to buissness & didn't ask or say anything. I saw her take out all the necessary tools out & they all looked new she cleaned me & the tools & she wore gloves. She did use a captive bead hoop & I asked if that was ok because I heard not to get those & she assured me they we're better because I'll be sweating & its the summer I confessed I was a little nervouse & I just don't want anything to go wrong but she told me after 8 weeks I can change to a barbell but she needs to start me off with this one. I just want to make sure I have nothing to worry about & I'll be ok to change to a barbell in 8 weeks. Also I did purchase the sea salt spray but is there anything else I must do. To keep it safe & for it to heal fast? All she told me was to read the instructions. I want to be as safe as possible so I can keep it healthy.I have looked things up online but I rather know from an expert. If you can please help me be educated I would appreciate it soooo much!!!!!!
