Edits, Photos, Illustrations

Things are moving right along. This past week has been filled with multiple rounds of passing my manuscript back and forth with my editor. She'd send it back at about 8 pm and want the changes made by the next day! Needless to say I was "burning the midnight oil" to get it all done. But I did it! And it is a feeling of great accomplishment! I'm also working hard with my wonderful illustrator Jennifer! She's fantastic and she is doing all of the drawings from photos of piercings. Collaborating with her is a whole new skill (how do you EXPLAIN where the piercing should go in words?!). I'm really enjoying it and learning a lot, too. I finished up work today by making a list of all of the photos in the book and their captions. I went through to figure out which images are on hand, and which I still need to obtain. There are so many parts to putting this book together! I can't wait to see the finished product. Off to watch the Obama/McCain debate!

Fan Mail for Two

I had made a referral to a piercer and this is feedback from the gal who got pierced.
Hi Angel, I can't thank you enough for your help finding Clay at Infinite!! I went and had it done Saturday, he was really fantastic. He performed the VCH on me, it went very well, no problem at all. The placement looks just where it should be! You were so right he is a very cool and funny guy. I actually took a friend with me and she was thinking about getting the VCH but after Clay took a look at her, he told her she was perfect for the Triangle, and so she had him do it. It went perfectly, no problem for her either! You have helped me so much finding the right piercer, I truly thank you for all of your efforts. You know without your website I would have never been able to gather all the information I needed to know about these types of piercings, I would have stopped thinking about it years ago. So you have helped me on all levels. I hope you are doing well and that the book is coming along just fine, it will help so many people like me. Take Care Angel, K.

Feedback From My Editor

I have to admit that I've felt pretty stressed out while my editor, Lisa, has had been giving the manuscript for The Piercing Bible its first developmental edit. She sent it back tonight with this delightfully positive comment:
Hi Elayne, Wow, I feel like I've spent a lot of time with you this week! That's how well your fabulous voice shines through in this manuscript. It's clear, authoritative, informative, with little bursts of humor to keep the reader interested. Well done!
I'll admit I've got a HUGE grin plastered on my face after reading that!

Piercing a Nursing Mother?

Here is a question from a woman concerned about piercing while she is still nursing:
Hi, I was hoping that you could please give me some advice. I'm wanting to get a tragus piercing but am still breastfeeding my second child who is now 12 months old. (I have had a navel piercing for many years with no problems and had a tattoo many years ago as well.) I read the website on safe piercing and it suggests to wait for 3 months after the birth before getting any form of piercing. My son is 12 months. I was speaking to the piercer at Polymorph in Sydney today and they mentioned a few things that I was hoping you could clarify. Firstly they suggested that there is an issue of adrenalin going through my breastmilk which could send my baby hyperactive. I'm not so concerned with that as an issue unless you suggest it's a major, major problem. Secondly, the piercer was hesitant to pierce my tragus while I'm still breastfeeding as a concern of acquiring an infection and it passing through my breastmilk to my son. I am only feeding my son still on average twice a day and he is on full solids as well. The website on safe piercing doesn't seem to suggest not piercing at this stage. What is your opinion? The guys at Polymorph were very helpful in trying to help me make my decision but I thought I would enquire further before making my choice to pierce at this point as I obviously don't want to risk an infection and then passing it on to my child. Please advise?? Do you think it is safe to pierce now? Look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Trish
If you are in good health, I believe you should be able to get a piercing at this time.

Fan Mail

Here is another nice message I got on MySpace:
Angel- My name is Alyssa and I'm a piercer from Toledo, OH.  I first heard of you during my apprenticeship; my mentor insisted I read your articles to familiarize myself with commonly asked questions and your after-care instructions.  This might seem a bit weird and perhaps unorthodox, but you are truly an inspiration to me! I hope that after I'm in this business for as long as you are I could help and inspire someone the way you have for me! Alyssa- Visions to Reality Tattoo and Piercing Studio
