Labret (Lip) Piercing Problem--Excess Scar Tissue Formation

I got this message from a piercee who is having trouble with  a labret (lip) piercing:

I got my labret pierced on the 3rd of december, and in the last couple days the skin on the inside of my piercing has grown (like a white flap on the bottom of the disc about 1mm tall) that rests next to the disc. i don't know whether it would be growing over it, i have a 10mm long stem which i thought is long enough, but i would still like your opinion

I told her that if she thinks the tissue is growing over the jewelry, she should should see her piercer IMMEDIATELY for a jewelry change! I also explained that I couldn't really evaluate a piercing without seeing it--or at least a photo or two. I requested that she send some clear, close up images, and I received these (below). They do show that the post is long enough so she is not in danger of the jewelry becoming embedded (which is a risk when a piercing is healing if the jewelry is too short).

Emu Oil for Healing (and Stretching) Nipple and Genital Piercings

I recently received a great message from a gentleman who got his first piercings at age 50. He wrote to say how much he likes emu oil, and how well it worked on his piercings and stretches:

The Effects of Stress and Health Habits on Piercings

Hi Elayne,

This is the second time I've noticed this.  I've had a few piercings since I was young.  I got a batch of piercings a while ago and the old, established piercings started to ache and ooze along with the new piercings.  All seemed to be better and I got a few more piercings recently.  Now all of my piercings, including the last batch are sore and crusting.  Can my new piercings cause my older piercings to be irritated? Thanks, S.

Septum Piercing Questions

I received a question about a tender septum piercing:

Hi Elayne,
I have had my septum pierced for three months. i am having issues with it. There is no discharge from it or crusties on the jewelry but it is very tender to the touch and very difficult when cleaning to start rotating the jewelry.

Thanks! T.

Hi T.,

Nurses' Reviews of The Piercing Bible

Below are three different positive reviews of The Piercing Bible from readers in the medical community:

Doctors and nurses educate yourself! The Piercing Bible, Definitive Guide is excellent source. As a RN, I have worked in our emergency department and I prepare patients for surgery. I educate my patients and colleagues regarding body piercing. I have found Elayne Angel to be my educator. Her extensive knowledge and professionalism have given me the tools to better teach others. I quote from her book, and try to help remove the stigma associated with people who choose to adorn their bodies. I HIGHLY recommend this book to ALL, but also encourage my fellow healthcare professionals to be informed!

The Piercing Bible!

I have to admit that anyone interested in piercings or in becoming a piercer or who already works in this profession and has not yet read this book, you must read this! I have been aware of Elayne Angel since I began my career in 93′ and have worked on clients that she has pierced and I have great respect for her dedication and knowledge. This is the most straight forward and informative book on Piercing I have ever read and I reccomend it to anyone who enjoys piercings and all that goes into it from start to finish.

Facebook | Message: Hi

I received a Facebook message from a piercer in Serbia. He has a copy of my book, all the way over there!
Thank you a lot that you accepted me for a friend. You made me very happy. It is my distinct honor to keep your new book The Piercing Bible in my hands of which I received today. I am the master pirser in Serbia, Novi Sad in the Studio of tattoo & Piercing colled Be Beauty. Can not wait to read your book and learn so much from it, because you were the person for which I started, and dealing with the piercing. I will send you a friend request of my studio profile BeBeauty TattooPiercing , and I would be very grateful if you would view my work related to piercing and told me honestly what you think. Thank you in advanced! Best regards, Nikola Puvaca

Lost Jewelry

I got a question today that I hadn't been asked before:
Hi, I would be grateful if you could give me some advice regarding penis piercings. I have just realised that my boyfriends piercing has come off during sex.  i found the hoop part to it, but could not find the ball part. I would be grateful if you could offer me some advice as to what I should do next. Many thanks.
Hi, Is it possible that the ball was gone before you had sex and was never inside you? Even if the ball had been inside you at some point, it may have fallen out and gotten lost without your awareness. If a manual examination with your finger (or your boyfriend's finger) does reveal the missing jewelry and you have reason to believe it is inside you, or you feel stressed out over wondering, you may want to visit your gynecologist for a more thorough exam. It is extremely unlikely that the ball has gone far (for example into your cervix or uterus) as you would feel pain and cramping from a foreign object there. As they say, "What goes up, must come down" and that likely probably here as well. Let me know what happens! Angel
