Elayne Angel

Another Great Reader Review!

I was looking at The Piercing Bible on Amazon.com and I saw that another great reader review has been added. As of right now, there are four of them posted there, and they ALL have 5 out of 5 stars!
5.0 out of 5 stars "Buy it"! By: Mike (Los Angeles) - If you are mildly interested in having something pierced or a bit more serious about it, whether it be an earlobe or an intimate bodypart, if it's your first piercing or you've had several, you owe it to yourself to get Elayne Angel's book. She covers every facet of this subject, from just the anticipation of having it done to the actual procedure, including finding the right piercer, as well as the necessary aftercare and commitment involved to have a happy and healthy piercing. Her vast knowledge and experience are brought into words in a way that is easy to understand and refreshing to read. She covers every piercing located on the body that you can imagine, complete with its procedure, recommendations for initial guage and type of jewelry, as well as healing and aftercare information. Also covered are the stereotypes and myths that have been attached to this subculture. She shows that if you are at all interested in becoming a piercee, it may serve to alleviate any apprehensions you've had when you come to realize that people of all ages and walks of life enjoy having a bit of metal somewhere on their body, perhaps someone you would never even suspect. Just buy it, you'll be glad you did.
I'm absolutely thrilled that the people who have been reading my book are enjoying it and finding it useful and informative.

GREAT Review!

I just found this fantastic review of The Piercing Bible on a Aniareads weblog about body modification:
There are only few books on body piercing out there, so each new addition, especially when it’s a good one, is welcome. That’s the case with ‘The Piercing Bible. The Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing’ by Elayne Angel, a well-known female body piercer who got her education in the Gauntlet and witnessed all the changes body modification scene has been undergoing during the last few decades. The book is divided in 7 parts (table of contents here) discussing the most basic information about the various types of body piercing, their procedures, healing and aftercare. Now and then there are included some anecdotes from Angel’s own experiences, interesting pieces of information about history of body piercing and people’s experiences and opinions about body piercings they got done themselves. The Bible is addressed primarily to the piercees, both these who already have some body piercing experiences under their belt and those who are about to enter the world of body modification but professionals may also find it useful. With her vast experience, international fame and all other ‘cool’ icing, Angel’s tone throughout the book is, however, very friendly and always customer-directed/oriented – it’s obvious that her customers’ well-being is always her priority and main concern. She understands her customers’ doubts, fears and problems that may appear after the procedure and initial healing, so she provides as detailed picture of body piercing with all responsibilities, possible problems and solutions as possible.

Great Customer Review

One of my friends on Triablectic just sent me this great feedback about my book:
I Just wanted to say that I love your book! I received a copy from Amazon.com a couple weeks ago and have gone through it cover to cover. I am relatively new to the piercing thing (2008 was my first piercing) but it has really been something I've found to be so totally liberating even at this point in my life, I am 58. I love the way you write, it is so thorough in its coverage of every aspect with just enough subtle humor thrown in to keep it light and refreshing to read. I found it very informative with it's coverage of aftercare and also on one of the piercings I am considering. I am also totally thankful for your recommendation for the emu oil. I have been using it on my piercings every day for about a month now and I can't believe the effect it has had. I live in Southern Calif. and have had Eric 'Sque3ze' Anderson as my piercer at his shop 'Anomaly' in Pasadena. I feel fortunate to have found someone so knowledgeable and professional. In fact I just called and talked to him today about the possibility of getting an amphallang (I'm still in fact a bit hesitant about it and just trying to get a lot of feedback on it). I was impressed to see him mentioned in your book. Anyway I just wanted to say how much I loved your book and that I find you to be one 'awesome' lady.

Interview

I did an interview about The Piercing Bible with Cloud from The Pierced Consumer. Here is her introduction to it:
Just Get It! Let me introduce you to the best reference a pierced consumer could have: The Piercing Bible, a book by Elayne Angel. There’s nothing else like it out there, and no one but Angel could have written this book.  I know she has worked very hard on it, and I am bursting with pride for her.  It’s a fantastic book for everyone interested in body piercing, and I do urge everyone to pick up a copy. In the interest of disclosure, I had a small part in the conceptualization of the project.  I knew we needed a book like this, and I’m so excited to finally have it. I’m not going to do a “review,” because I can’t be unbiased, although I plan at least one more  blog post on the book, more content-related.  For right now, allow me to introduce Ms. Elayne Angel, piercer, author, a pivotal figure in modern body piercing, and not the least to me, my friend.

Emu Oil Triumphs Again!

If you've read much of what I've written about piercing, chances are you've run into some mention of emu oil. I think it is fantastic for healing everything, including body piercings (whether new and healing, in the process of stretching, or having a flare up). I got a fantastic email today from a woman who used it to heal her son's burns:
Elayne! I hope things are going superbly down in the Yucatan with your honey. I have to tell you, We miss you!!!! that would be the entire piercing community in the united states. I still wish I had been able to come down to NOLA before you closed and have the honor of having you do my triangle. Thanks to your recommedations, I flew out to Inifinite in Philly and had the esteemed Kevin Jump perform it for me. Its stretched to a 4 gauge and honestly I don't even wear my VCH anymore (although I could and have) because I love my triangle so much! I got the chance to spend the day with Jen and she is just a love! We shared the miseries of the east coast attitude. LOL Anyways, the reason why I am writing to you is different. Not piercing related persay, but related to you. Back in the day when I  was working on piercings and healing I practically absorbed everything you wrote. Including the information about emu oil. I followed every link, I read every article. and thankfully, I did! This past fall, my son was being a stupid teenager. and to make a fairly long story short, he ended up being burned on all four extremities from a spray paint can exploding. The paint was on fire and it stuck to anywhere he had bare skin. He was burned over 30% of his body. He was lifeflighted to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh and lodged in the pediatric burn ICU. Thankfully he didn't need skin grafts but it was a long agonizing painful process.

Neil Steinberg, the author of the article mentioned below, told me he might wait until closer to the book's publication date (in May) to run the piece that included my interview. But, it ran today. Here is the link to the article in the Chicago Sun Times. He got most of it right, but made it sound as though I'd done 40,000 genital piercings (rather than piercings overall, which I meant). He also said it would be published "next month" but it won't be on the shelves until May. But you can still pre-order it at a dicount here on Amazon.com.

Happy New Year: 2009!

The changing of the calendar year is an opportunity for reflecting on the past year, and experiencing gratitude for the good things. It is also a wonderful chance to make a fresh start going forward into the new one. For me, 2008 was fantastic in part because it was the year I finally got my book deal to publish The Piercing Bible. That was a biggie (especially since I'd been working on the book for literally years already). Keep your focus positive. Dreams do come true--I'm living proof! Wishing everyone out there a joyful and peaceful 2009.
