Triangle Talk

I received a message from a woman who is interested in getting a triangle piercing. She had sent me some photos and I told her she appeared to be anatomically suited to a triangle piercing. Then she wrote:

I contacted a piercing studio and the receptionist told me a triangle is a ''nightmare piercing, not suited for someone who is sexually active, it's a horrible piercing.'' I was also told ''It'll stretch''. Is this actually true?

I feel really gutted because I've heard good things about the triangle and love the look of it but I've never heard this before. I know it's anatomy dependent but I thought it was a fine piercing for someone with the right anatomy, which I believe I do have after doing lots of research.

Can you please shed some light on this?

My reply:

Did the Reviewer Read the Book?

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/79028936

I got my first (and so far only) one-star review. I read it over, and I have to say, it seems that the individual may not have actually read my book. The first statement in the review is:

"I'm little confused as to why this book exists."

That's pretty clearly addressed on page 2:
The Piercing Bible is primarily directed toward piercees, but it also contains a wealth
of information for the parents of children who want to get pierced or are already
pierced, teachers who work with pierced students, health-care professionals who deal
with pierced patients (whether treating problem piercings or performing unrelated
medical procedures), and piercers who want an authoritative reference work or an
educational tool for clients.

Why This Book?
Piercing can be dangerous, and it is far more complicated than most people realize.
The hazards range from tearing, scarring, migration, and rejection to localized bacte-
rial infections and, though rare, serious infections. Consumers need facts about the
risks, choices, and best practices involved. People who interact with piercees also need
to be informed about various aspects of piercing. Many myths have persisted, even in
academic and medical literature; they are finally dispelled here, too.

Escape From New York

Well, that's a little harsh. But the winter weather there is also harsh, so I'm happy to be back in the Yucatan, where the weather is literally 50+ degrees warmer than it was on the East Coast. It was between the 20s and 40s there, and here it is a breezy, but toasty 97 degrees. Yum!

My husband and I had a fantastic trip, and we were truly honored to speak at Yale University. You can see some reviews of my class on erotic piercings here and here.

While in NY, I stopped into a cool clothing store (where I found a geat pair of black leather pants) and ran into a woman who I'd met previously in my own studio in New Orleans. She's a very interesting person named Joshua Suzanne, and she did a brief interview with me:

New Website Design

It's finally here! The long-awaited website redesign that I've been dreaming about for so long. Huge thanks to Rich Rudzinski of Tragic Media for doing a great job and being patient with me while I asked a million questions. The site is done in Drupal, which is new to me, so please bear with me as I make the necessary corrections. I'm aware that the images from previous blog posts didn't get imported with the text, so I'm working on that. Thanks for your patience.

Feel free to let me know how you like the new design, and if you have any comments, suggestions, or corrections email me.

Best of the Guestbook

The design for my website www.piercingbible.com is just about to be updated, and that's surely for the best. But, one slightly sad (but unavoidable) thing that is that my old Guestbook will be no more, and the posts will be unavailable. Some related good news is that all of my previous blog posts will still be available in the archives on the updated site. So, I've decided to make a blog post "Best of the Guestbook" to preserve some of the entries. Here we go!

I'm Back!

It has been quite some time since I posted as I was on the road without internet access. I had a fantastic trip to Milan, Italy where I taught a 3-hour course on oro-facial anatomy and basic piercing at the APTPI Congress. The audience was comprised primarily of piercers from Italy, though there were individuals from other countries as well. I taught the class (which included a PowerPoint presentation containing over 250 slides, and video of me performing piercings) in English. They provided professional interpreters and the audience listened to the translation on headphones. It was really cool, but I had a little bit of stress while we tried three different computers and couldn't get my PowerPoint to play. Finally they got it working. Whew! While in Milan I had the pleasure of visiting the Duomo, which was incredible. (Photos below.) The host hotel was great, but it was located a little bit outside the city, so we didn't get to see much of Milan while there. Bethra Szumski was my travel companion. She is the owner of Virtue and Vice in Atlanta, Georgia; and Pain and Wonder in Athens, Georgia. She's also the secretary for the Association of Professional Piercers, and she taught a class in Grounding and Bedside Manner. Following the conference we caught a ride with some friends from Slovenia and went for a visit in their home town of Koper. We had an incredible whirlwind trip and they showed us Piran, a beautiful old beach town on the Adriatic Sea, and also gigantic caves in Postojna, Slovenia.

"Doctors and Nurses Educate Yourselves!"

Posted December 9, 2009, 1:56 PM EST: The Piercing Bible, Definitive Guide is excellent source. As an RN, I have worked in our emergency department and I prepare patients for surgery. I educate my patients and colleagues regarding body piercing. I have found Elayne Angel to be my educator. Her extensive knowledge and professionalism have given me the tools to better teach others. I quote from her book, and try to help remove the stigma associated with people who choose to adorn their bodies. I HIGHLY recommend this book to ALL, but also encourage my fellow healthcare professionals to be informed!
