When to Stretch a Triangle Piercing

I got a question from a woman I performed a triangle piercing on:

Hello Elayne,
It has almost been 5 weeks since I got my triangle piercing, and everything is healing up fine. I was wondering how much longer I needed to wait until I gauge it up to a 10?

Thanks again so much, so far I really love this piercing!

More Great Feedback

I received a very touching message from a reader whose life was obviously impacted in a positive way from reading my book:

Elayne,

I would like to say that you are truly an inspiration. After buying your book 2 years ago, I realized that I have always felt my body was lacking something... To put it simply, ownership. But also, decoration (because thats always fun)!

Body modification has helped me reclaim my body after sexual assault and depression. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years suffering from anxiety and low self-esteem, and after years of thinking I was less than beautiful, I discovered your book.

I had always fawned over body modification and piercings, but I never thought it was right for me. Then, I read your book. Your book opened up a world that would change me for the better; spiritually, physically, sexually and mentally. Ive slowly begun my journey of changing my body to match my soul. And thanks to the knowledge and expertise of your book, I can do it safely and properly. I dont know where I'd be without it- certainly not as strong and self-confident as I am now! Haha.

And this message from a piercer who found my book useful, in other ways:

Subject: Piercing Bible

Hi Elayne,

I've been piercing for 12 years and I recently received a copy of your book as a present and I must thank YOU!

Despite being in the industry for a good few years I still learned a lot and a lot of what I knew has been confirmed.

What a great resource, especially for anxious clients.

Thanks again.

Short & Sweet

I got this from a gentleman in Scotland who purchased my book:

Thank you for writing such a fabulous book ~ can't put it down. It is informative and easy read, H.

I bought your book. Wow, I knew it would be very informative, but I wasn't expecting such depth. It is definitely aptly titled. I'm glad I got it.

Thanks for all the info, I'll join the mailing list.

Have a great weekend,

R.

Now Available ! Jim Ward's New Book: Running the Gauntlet

Running The Gauntlet Book Cover

In Running the Gauntlet pioneer Jim Ward provides a captivating in-depth narrative on the origins of the modern body piercing industry. I was completely spellbound by Ward’s uncensored personal history, and his account of establishing a unique business that has brought genuine change to contemporary culture. Prior to Jim Ward’s founding of Gauntlet Enterprises, piercing was a little-known activity practiced by people on the fringes of society. Now, as a result of his actions, there are piercing studios all around the globe and millions of pierced individuals. The quantity of “firsts” that are under Jim Ward’s belt (figuratively, and perhaps literally) is remarkable.

This volume would stand on its own as a text, but the phenomenal collection of historical images throughout the book transported me on a journey across time right along with the author. The rich visuals make the story accessible and wholly satisfying.

Even those who are not involved in body piercing would love this book because the tale itself is so intriguing, and so compellingly and candidly recounted. Don’t miss this must-read memoir!

Discoloration (Hyperpigmentation) From Body Piercing

I received this message through my website:

Hi Elayne,

About five months ago I got my waist pierced. The piercer did not perform the piercing right neither did he use the PTFE in the piercing and it rejected within a matter of weeks and left a really unattractive scar that has slightly faded but is still there.

Three months ago I went to another piercer and I got my belly button pierced & also a surface piercing below my belly button. My piercing did not reject but I still had dark circles around the piercing and ended up taking it out.

attached are pictures of the scars.

OB/GYN Appointments Following Genital Piercing

I received this message from a woman I pierced:

Hi Elayne, first off I would like to say thank you again for my VCH piercing I love it! I got the piercing 2/18 and I am due to make an OBGYN appointment soon I was wondering if I have to wait until the 4-6 weeks is up or if it would be ok to make the appointment a little earlier than that? Thanks again, A.

My reply:

Hi A.,

Just so long as you're clear on the need to leave in your jewelry to preserve your piercing, and you feel confident that your practitioner follows appropriate hygienic precautions (hand washing followed by proper application of gloves), it should be fine to have your appointment any time.

Unfortunately, I frequently find that medical professionals are lax in their practices in ways that could put your healing piercing at risk. For example, I commonly see doctors and nurses who fail to wash their hands and then grab a glove from the box and/handle it by the exterior of the glove fingertips (thereby contaminating the glove). Just something to watch out for regarding your health and well being--regardless of whether you have a healing piercing!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,
Elayne

Successful Piercing Visits to Atlanta and Philadelphia

I'm back home after a long but successful trip. I attended a Board meeting for the Association of Professional Piercers, did piercings in Atlanta and Philadelphia, and shot a segment for The Learning Channel about erotic piercings.

In Atlanta I performed 53 piercings on 31 clients over 3 days. They came from Alabama, Florida, Illinois, South Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia (of course), and Ontario, Canada to be pierced by me.

In Philadelphia, I performed 71 piercings on 50 clients over 4 days. They came to get pierced by me from Connecticut, Deleware, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Washington DC, and of course, Pennsylvania, plus Ontario, Canada! Wow!!

As usual, I did primarily female genital piercings--LOTS of VCH piercings, and a good number of triangles, too. I There were quite a few women who got both, while we were at it. I also did a few inner labia piercings and a fourchette or two. I did some male genital piercings too, including an apadravya, some frenums, and a lorum. I did a number of nipple piercings, including one woman who had inverted nipples when she arrived, and very perky non-inverted nipples when she left. She was so delighted--I completely cured her inverted nipples!

I told a good friend of mine about my trip. She is a really great woman, a writer who is also an American living in the Yucatan. She wrote to me:
