Surface VCH du Jour (With Photo)

Here it is, the surface VCH (Vertical Clitoral Hood) piercing of the day. This is not where the piercing should be placed! In fact, it is off by the piercing equivalent of MILES.

It was done by Tasha at Way of Ink, in Springfield VA. Naturally the piercee was quite upset. My advice was to ask for her money back and abandon the piercing, and to seek a more competent professional if she wants a properly placed piercing.

The photo below shows the "inverted-V" of the hood. The bottom ball should be coming out from under this location so the jewelry rests underneath the hood against the clitoris.

Navel Piercing Problem

I received a message from a guy about his friend's navel piercing he was concerned about (for good cause):

Hi Elayne, My friend has had her bellybutton pierced for about 7 months and its Infected and she won't take I out so I was wondering what to do for her?

Navel Piercing Problem

You could drive her to a high quality piercer, and possibly also a doctor! Fortunately, it looks as though the problem is still localized. But infection can spread to affect a wider area. If that happens, she really should see a doctor.

Based on how it looks, her piercing is going to reject. That reddened appearance form entry to exit is a very bad sign. It indicates that the tissue holding the jewelry in has been affected and is not healthy.

If she wants to try to preserve the piercing she must get the hanging jewelry out of there right away. Hanging or dangling jewelry should never be worn on a healing piercing or one that is experiencing problems. Navel piercings frequently take 6-9 months to heal, and hanging jewelry should be avoided during that entire time.

She should put in high quality, mirror finsih, internally threaded jewelry that fits properly. Also, the bar she's wearing is far too long, and that will cause problems as well, including excess trauma.

Further, she should care for it according to accepted practice:

and do saline soaks at least twice daily:

Even if she does everything I suggest, there still may be no saving it.

The Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH) Surface Piercing on Woman Who Knew What to Look For!

I received a question from a woman who got a surface VCH piercing. This was more disturbing than usual because she had seen this site and read all about the pirecing. Even so, she ended up with a VCH surface piercing:

Are you still finding the time to answer questions? If yes I have a question on surface VCH piercings: do you advise keeping them and if not why not?

I found your website and had a read through before getting my piercing but I guess no amount of reading can guarantee the result you're after. The lady I went to certainly talked the talk. I had the piercing done today and I'm not unhappy with the result but I think it may be incorrectly placed.

What is your opinion on my piercing? Can I keep it or do you think it will cause me issues further down the track? I can't really gauge the implications of a surface piercing from the info on your website.

Thanks for your time and assistance in advance,

J.

Hi J.,

Triangle (Female Genital) Piercing Suitable for Virgin? (with photo)

I received an interesting message from a woman who is interested in getting a triangle piercing, but she has not had penetrative sex yet (and may never have had an orgasm):

I have been thinking about getting a triangle piercing for about 3 months now. I have trouble (or perhaps have never, am not super clear on this point) reaching orgasm and I think that this would help. From the information you gave on your site, I think that I am anatomically suited for it (yay). A friend implied that since I have not ever actually had penetrative sex, I should wait and "see if that makes a difference" (I am in my mid-twenties and attracted to men). In your professional opinion, do you think this piercing would make a difference? And do you think I should wait until after I have penetrative sex (that could be a while).

My reply:

This is a very personal decision that I can't make for you. Though I can most certainly encourage you to wait until you're able to get to a piercer who is highly qualified, meaning someone I recommend, or me personally.

I can say (as a sexually savvy mature woman in my 50s) that you won't be fully versed on what you enjoy sexually until you get more experience. So you wouldn't be able to know, for example, how the piercing has enhanced sex, until you've had it.

Ear Piercing Problem

I received a message from a gal who was having problems with an ear piercing:

I can't get a good picture of the piercing so I'll try my best to describe the situation. I got my 4th piercing on my earlobe around the end of May 2012, and I think I may have created another hole next to the actual piercing. The piercing is probably around 90% healed; the front hole is healed and never bleeds, but the back hole (where the earring comes out of) is still healing and sometimes will bleed a tiny bit. I've been cleaning my piercing with salt water and anti bacterial soap, I have not used any creams or lotions on it, it does not hurt or ache and there is no pus. However, I think I may have poked another hole at the back of my ear when I pushed the earring back through the hole after I took it out to clean it. So now, I think I have one front hole, and two holes in the back. The earring can go through the front and out the back in two separate holes, and the two back holes are not connected. Something might have ripped on the inside of the piercing. I'm trying to close one of the holes, and the skin on the new one has already formed over but the area around it looks a bit red. Should I continue to clean it as I have been doing? Or should I get it checked out?

Any information would be helpful, thanks!

Hi there,

Your description is good, but I'm still not going to be able to offer thorough advice without seeing you, or at least a clear, close up photo or two.

Are you wearing body jewelry or a traditional earring? When you wear body jewelry there is NO REASON to take the jewelry out to clean it!

A Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH) Piercing with "Bubble" (with photos)

VCH (Clitoral Hood) piercing with "bubble"I got a message from a woman who was having some problems with her VCH piercing (which I did not perform for her--though this particular healing problem can crop up even when everything is done properly).

Hi Elayne, I'm having issues with my VCH piercing. It began after being agitated after sex (it seemed to be healing fine at the time). I noticed it stung sometimes when I sat down, sometimes when I walked. Upon closer examination, I noticed something that looks like an extra bit of skin under the top ball. I paid extra attention to it during cleaning, and noticed there was a bit of (off-white) discharge. I started doing soaks, the discharge went away, it stopped stinging, but the extra skin didn't go away. I did that for about 1.5 weeks.

This morning, I woke up and the discharge came back and it slightly stings again. I just did a soak... But I'm not sure what else to do.

In reading your book, I think it may be a keloid, but I'm not sure. Maybe an abscess (but I don't feel any hard localized mass). If it is a keloid, should it just be taken out? How can I be sure there's no infection still inside the piercing?

Failed Navel Piercings--To Repierce, or Not To Repierce

I got a message from a woman who had her navel pierced on multiple occasions without success:

Hi,
I wondered if you could help please. I'v now had my belly button peirced 5 times over the years and Scars from multiple navel piercingsevery time it grows out within a few month. The bar comes right to the surface so there's no longer any skin holdin it in and just a scab. I really don't no why this is happening I look after it well. I have my ears peirced since been a baby and never had any problems. The scar I'm left with is quite big and each time I used to get it peirced behind the scar. I really would like to have this peircing and for it to heal fully which it never has. Please can u advise if there is anything I could do or to just give it up as a bad job :(

Thanks for your time I look forward to your reply.

Did you do anything different to try for a different outcome? Alternate care or jewelry material? If you do things the same way, you can expect the same results.

Was your jewelry high quality with a mirror finish? See photo (of jewelry availble here):
