From The Pierced Consumer

This post is from my friend Cloud's blog, The Pierced Consumer:
Today’s the day! April 1, 2009 [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="240" caption="The Piercing Bible on Amazon.com"]The Piercing Bible on Amazon.com[/caption] The Piercing Bible, by Elayne Angel, is now available for shipping at Amazon! Here is the link: The Piercing Bible on Amazon.com (pic above is copied from there.) This book will be the single greatest resource for piercees and piercers that I know of. Angel is one of the foremost professional piercers in the world, and her knowledge and expertise shine through all of the detailed information contained in the book. I’m proud to say I had a hand in creating the concept for this book, and I know all of you will get a lot out of it. I’ll do a review when I receive it, but it won’t be unbiased. I cannot tell you how excited I am! Just buy it! The Pierced Consumer.
I wanted to reiterate what Cloud said about having a hand in creating the concept for the book. She did more than that. In fact, the book is dedicated to her!

In My Hands

I'm SO excited! Guess what I've got? Finally: a copy of The Piercing Bible. For the first time, I've been able to see, hold, and read a finished copy of the book--just like the one you'll get when you place an order. It looks GREAT! The format looks a little bigger than I imagined it, and the color on the cover is tinged with a tad of purple (though I'll admit that I lobbied for a more punchy purple color). Opening up the box...Seeing the books for the first time I opened the box and lifted the book--hefted it really, to feel its pleasant and considerable weight. Smiling, I took a look at the front and back covers, then thumbed through the whole thing and heard the sound of the paper, as I took a big whiff of the fresh paper and ink. I did everything but lick the thing; I wanted (needed, even) to experience my book with every possible sense I have. What a delight! I also got another mini pre-review from one of the reviewers:

80% and Counting

Today I looked at the Amazon.com page for The Piercing Bible, and I saw that 80% of the people who visited the page purchased my book! That's a super-high "conversion rate" for a retail website. Of course I know the figure can change, but that really knocked my socks off! Well, it isn't as though there is some other title to choose if someone is looking for a reference book all about piercing. : )

Fan Mail

This one just about made me blush today. It was so nice that this woman took the time to write to me:
Hi Elayne, I have been thinking about your upcoming book release and the signing.  How exciting!  I have tried to imagine how I would feel in your shoes.  I am so pleased for you and so proud for you. As a businesswoman in this world which is not always kind, you have made big headway. I own a small company and know what a hard boss I have!   You have really excelled in your career even before this book of course.  I think you should  give yourself a big pat on the back for your accomplishments! This is starting to sound like cheerleading - lol!  Anyway, I think it is great that you have new things going on in your life.  I do plan to purchase your book and I am sure that I will learn so much from it. Have a great time at the signing and at the piercing convention.  It's the other side of the States for me so I will not be attending but I will be sending you good thoughts! Best, Dawn

The Piercing Bible is Almost Here!

My editor told me that The Piercing Bible inventory has arrived at the warehouse, and that she'd send me a copy this week. I am so excited!! I can't wait to see the finished product. She also had me notify my contacts who are planning to review the book that they were going to be shipped out shortly. Entering this next phase is so thrilling! Oh, and I got so excited this weekend when I was searching for something about piercing when I ran into my very own words on Google Books. The Piercing Bible is on there (well, about 30% of the book). Check it out! Please feel free to let me know your thoughts and comments.

The Nitty Gritty

My editor, Lisa, sent me back my manuscript one last time (in .pdf format) so I could look it over and put in the correct page numbers for all of the cross-references throughout the book. Much of the information is quite interrelated. To avoid redundancy (it still came in at a higher word count than planned) there are areas where it says, for example: See "Overstimulation, Sensation, and Desensitization,” page 257, for related information." But since the page numbers continued to change until the final version, the manuscript says, See "Overstimulation, Sensation, and Desensitization,” page XX, for related information." My job now is to go through, and insert the correct page number so that all of the cross-references are properly identified. It is a big job! I'd better get back to it...

Book Update

I found out that the offices of my publisher, Ten Speed Press, will be closed until January 5, and that makes me a little nervous. I still haven't seen the final draft, and since the manuscript is supposed to head to the printer on January 20, that means there will only be 15 days for me to review the book and have changes made. Oh well, I'm sure it will work out--it always does. I also noticed that the The Piercing Bible is up in their online catalog. Here is a link to that. And I'm also under their listing of authors, too. I've been making a lot of advance sales through Amazon.com because they have my book on pre-sale at a discount: see (or order) it here. They list March 17 as the date the book becomes available. YAYY!!!
