Great Feedback

I just received this wonderful feedback from a reader on my Facebook page:

Hello Elayne, i have always been into body piercings and moodification since i was 14, i have had many done and always dreamed of being a piercer when i was older, i am now 23 and i have been offered an apprenticeship with a professional piercer in my home town. Your book was recommended to me by a friend's mother who is a nurse. I have read it twice now and just wanted to thank you for releasing an informative educational guide for piercees, piercers or people who are generally interested in body piercing. Keep up the good work and i hope many more books are sold.

B & N Review--5 Stars!

I found a great review of The Piercing Bible on the Barnes and Noble website. It was posted July 4, 2009
"This is a must have for those who take piercings seriously, as well as a guide for the professional piercer. If you want to understand the dynamics of the whole piercing process, then this is the book for you. Varies as a guidance book which provides some history of various piercings as well as what to expect before , during and after."
The reviewer gave it 5 stars in EACH of the following categories!
  • Research
  • Writing
  • Originality
  • Balance
  • Interior Images
And said, IT IS:
  • Enlightening
  • Provocative
  • Thrilling
  • Absorbing
  • Intellectual Stimulation
  • Topical Conversation
Good stuff!

On Piercing Books

The Piercing Bible got a mention on this blog forum today. A poster asked:
"Growing an interest in body piercing, and looking for more information on it so i can practice it. Anyone know or recommend any books that can teach me?"
An excellent response was given that began:
"YOU CANNOT LEARN TO PIERCE SIMPLY BY READING A BOOK. There is so much to know, like bloodborne pathogen certifications, anatomy, cross-contamination, sterilization, etc. If you want to learn to be a piercer, you must apprentice under a knowledgeable, experienced professional."
And ended:
"....and a great book to read is The Piercing Bible by Elayne Angel."

AMAZING!

I just checked the Amazon.com page for The Piercing Bible and I was thrilled and amazed to see that the figure has gone up: of the web surfers who visit that page, 97% of them purchase a copy of my book!! I've watched it on a weekly basis (okay, maybe even more frequently, I'll admit) to see whether the numbers were heading up or down. They have gone up, up, up! I spoke to the sales manager at my publisher, and she said that is completely unheard of in book sales. Yay, The Piercing Bible!

Now In New Orleans

Signed copies of The Piercing Bible are now available in my old stomping grounds: New Orleans. You can pick one up at NOLA Tattoo at 8120 Hampson Street; Uptown New Orleans near the Riverbend. Call them at (504) 524-6147 if you have questions. If you're in the market for a piercing, I highly recommend Pat Roig. He apprenticed under me and pierced at my French Quarter specialty studio, Rings of Desire, (closed following hurricane Katrina) for over 10 years. He's an excellent, highly experienced piercer, and a heck of a nice guy, too. If you're looking to get tattooed, I highlty suggest NOLA Tattoo's own Walt Clark. He is extremely talented and also a super greaty guy. He inked the flowers that cover my hands--a miniature version of the floral vines that cover my arms. What Massage Therapists Should Know About Body Piercings

I ran into an interesting article online: What Massage Therapists Should Know About Body Piercings. It was well written and factual with the exception that they reiterated the ubiquitous piercing myths: that Roman soldiers pierced their nipples and that Egyptian pharaohs pierced their navels. I also contend that the rate of complications would be a lot lower if consumers were better educated--and now they can be, thanks to The Piercing Bible!

I'm so excited to see a book like this being published. I was really impressed by how neutral it remained without leaving things out. Its really hard to write on this subject because so much of piercing is personal preference, but you did a fantastic job! xo- Cj
Cj makes a good point there, because primarily the book does share my opinions (due to a short supply of "substantive research studies, statistical analyses, and other definitive resource materials related to body piercing" as it says in The Piercing Bible. I feel proud to have expressed them while still seeming "neutral"--that's tricky to be sure! It is great to hear that.
