It's Official: The Books Are Now Shipping!

I've heard from several friends who have ordered The Piercing Bible from Amazon.com: they've received notices that their orders have been shipped out! So, if you've already placed an order, check your mailbox. And if you haven't purchased one yet, now is a good time! Just click the Amazon.com link to place your order. Oh, and my last check of the stats showed that 83% of the people who viewed the item made the purchase! How exciting! I can't wait to get some more reviews. There's two brief ones on Google Books, where you can also preview the book (about 30 % of it is on there).

In My Hands

I'm SO excited! Guess what I've got? Finally: a copy of The Piercing Bible. For the first time, I've been able to see, hold, and read a finished copy of the book--just like the one you'll get when you place an order. It looks GREAT! The format looks a little bigger than I imagined it, and the color on the cover is tinged with a tad of purple (though I'll admit that I lobbied for a more punchy purple color). Opening up the box...Seeing the books for the first time I opened the box and lifted the book--hefted it really, to feel its pleasant and considerable weight. Smiling, I took a look at the front and back covers, then thumbed through the whole thing and heard the sound of the paper, as I took a big whiff of the fresh paper and ink. I did everything but lick the thing; I wanted (needed, even) to experience my book with every possible sense I have. What a delight! I also got another mini pre-review from one of the reviewers:

A "Pre-Review" Review

I received an email from another one of the writers who will be reviewing my book:
Your book is brilliant!  It's the perfect book for ANYONE who wishes to get a piercing and is extremely reassuring, detailed, and authorative....  I can see how much work went into it and it's a wonderful book.

It's in the Mail!

I've heard from several of the writers who will be doing reviews on my book: they've already received their copies of The Piercing Bible in the mail! Meanwhile (here in Mexico) I'm empty handed. I guess the slow mail service is one of the few drawbacks of living here. I'm glad they got their copies already--but frankly--I want one too!

Fan Mail

This lovely comment was made (along with some very apt criticism of the medical and pharmaceutical industries) on my posting about emu oil.
Elayne, I love you! I've been in your periphery for many years and I have *never* seen or heard the faintest unpleasant whisper about you. That alone is admirable, but then you have to go and be a skilled, caring and intuitive facilitator for all us perverts. You've earned your wings ten times over! D'Arcy

80% and Counting

Today I looked at the Amazon.com page for The Piercing Bible, and I saw that 80% of the people who visited the page purchased my book! That's a super-high "conversion rate" for a retail website. Of course I know the figure can change, but that really knocked my socks off! Well, it isn't as though there is some other title to choose if someone is looking for a reference book all about piercing. : )

My First Review (of sorts)

I was looking at the Google Books Preview of The Piercing Bible and noticed someone had posted a review!
If you are a body piercer or have just been curious as to what goes into getting a body piercing then this is the book for you. I was amazed at all the information that there is in this book. Elayne was able to break down each piercing individually and write about the correct placement, style and size jewelry for each. I feel one of the best parts of the book is when she talks about the risky piercings and why they can be dangerous. It just goes to show that just because a piercer offers this piercing doesn't mean that it should be one that you get. I look forward to reading the rest of the book and I know that it is one that I will be sharing with others.
Sounds good to me!

Cheek Piercings

I received an email from a piercer who wanted to know about the safety of performing "dimple" or cheek piercings:
I have heard horror stories that piercing someone cheeks can hit a wrong nerve on someone. I was wondering if that was true? I was taught that there is no danger in doing this piercing?  Do you have a set measurement that you use on people as to make sure not to do any damage? I'm really uncomfortable performing any sort of piercing if there is a very big risk involved.
I explained that I no longer do cheek piercings due to the WORST complications that ever happened to somebody I pierced. For better or worse, it happened to me. In my book you can read the detailed explanation of why I don't do cheek piercings beyond the first molar. The areas of concern are the parotid duct and gland, rather than a particular nerve. I let her know she might be able to preview the story about it on page 119 of my book here on google books. She called her client who had been interested in getting cheek piercings to decline, and then she emailed me again in understandable frustration:
UHHHHHHHHHHH PEOPLE PISS ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!! So I called my client back today and told her very nicely that I was no longer offering cheek piercings and explained to her why and even told her about the story in her book..... You know what her response was to this??? "Well do you know anyone else in the area that does them?" ??? WTF!!!!! Hello didn't I just tell you a horror story and explain to you WHAT can happen!!! uhhhhhhhhhh I just don't get people sometimes!!!
We can lead people to good information, but it doesn't mean they'll use it. Or in this case, I can't help thinking, "We can't educate people who don't have half a brain."
