I just spent the last eight days in Las Vegas. Even though I am not a fan of that faux city, I had a really amazing time because I was with my colleagues and friends and that's what counts. It was the 15th Annual Conference and Exposition of the Association of Professional Piercers. I'm a long-time member, and I serve on the Board of Directors as Medical Liaison. It was held at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, in the newly renovated convention center. That part was great, but unfortunately the rooms in the tower near the center were not yet remodeled. Still, I sure didn't get to spend a lot of time in the hotel room, and the convenience of being near the class rooms and expo floor was great.
The banquet this year was the best ever. It was held in an old-school style Las Vegas theatre, and the theme was a formal masquerade. It was fabulous seeing everyone in their finery. One gal had such an elaborate costume and headdress, it took up an entire suitcase!
While I was there, I attended plenty of meetings (two meetings of the board of directors, a members' meeting, and an international meeting); co-taught four classes (anatomy of the body, oro-facial anatomy, male genital piercing, and one on the history of modern body piercing). I also had a booth in which I was selling (and signing) The Piercing Bible.

Health inspectors in Ontario, Canada purchased 14 copies of The Piercing Bible (through the Association of Professional Piercers) to assist them in regulating body piercing in that province. Upon receiving the package, the health inspector who placed the order sent this message:
Our medical officer of health requires us to use evidence informed decision making.
This is a good thing. We ask a lot of questions and strive to make the right decision.
The Piercing Bible will go a long way to help us educate ourselves.
The pamphlets are very nice too.

I was reading a public profile of a young man on an online dating site. He seems like a cool dude, studying computer science with a desire to be a professional piercer. I'm not actually looking for a date--I'm happily married. But I did notice that among his self-summary and favorite foods and music, he listed his favorite books, which included The Piercing Bible:
Books: demonata series and the pendragon series. Oh, and the piercing bible. WAY better than any other bible. It has FACTS.

I ran into this post in which The Piercing Bible was described as "Required Reading" on the topic of body modification:
This entry is more geared towards apprentices and those into the “past” surrounding our body modification industry/community,etc. However this is also very much available, immensely encouraged, for those out there who are clients/consumers or just general people interested in Body Modification. I believe these to be required reading (regardless if you agree or disagree with whats written), specifically for the typical apprentice that is starting out. They should read them and then approach their instructor/teacher/mentor and spark up discussions and healthy debates regarding this stuff.
Two books were listed in the post, (one other in addition to my own). I'm honored by the company, as the other book was Shannon Larratt's Opening Up Body Modification Interviews 1995-2008.

I noticed that The Piercing Bible was mentioned in this woman's account of her VCH piercing. I was very glad to read that the piercing turned out well, especially because it had been performed by an apprentice. But I did want to use this moment to clarify that while my book provides a great deal of information, it is not a "how to pierce" book, and simply because a piercer shows that he has it, (or says he's read it) doesn't mean he's qualified to perform any piercings solely as a result of that exposure. Congratulations to both piercer and piercee--it was the piercer's third VCH piercing, and it sounds like he did an excellent job (congrats to his mentor as well!). It was also great to read her positive comments about the studio:
I must say I have been very impressed with how clean and professional The Piercing Lounge is, and I think they understand people are nervous about coming in and getting pierced. They are very friendly and put you at ease. The aftercare instructions are also given to you right after you are pierced, but they are also given to you on a sheet of paper which is good because it was hard to pay attention right after getting pierced.

Well, it was not my photo (this time), but a 3-page spread I wrote about erotic piercing, with photos of some other lovely pierced individuals. You can read a brief write up about it here on the ModBlog website. Run out and get a copy today! It talks about the Prince Albert, Frenum, and Dydoe for men, and explains the erotic possibilites for stimulation from certain iercings. It also goes into a little about VCH piercings as well.

I just ran into a whole page of wonderful mini-reviews at bodyartforms:
Posted on 12/5/2009 So far Im loving this book! Ive learned so many interesting facts that Im rambling off to my family lol I would highly recommend for someone who wants a piercing or just anyone interested in piercings =]
Posted on 11/27/2009 This is a must have book for anyone interested in body piercing, it is probably the best and most comprehensive book you could buy on the subject right now. The book covers a wide range of subjects and includes diagrams. I would have preferred the book to include colour photographs and for me it spent too much time on the basics (but this would be a positive for people new to the subject).
Posted on 10/16/2009 Very comprehensive book. Has lots of info for beginners and also plenty of interesting things for those who have been around awhile. Wish I had this book 10 years ago!

The Piercing Bible was mentioned in this article about buying holiday gifts for people into body piercings. It says:
The Piercing Bible is a very detailed book that covers various body piercings, the history of the piercing, placement options and a variety of other details. It also talks about proper body piercing aftercare and investigates some of the myths surrounding body piercing.
Naturally, if you know someone who is into body piercing and they don't yet have a copy of The Piercing Bible, it is a perfect gift for the holidays, or a birthday, graduation, or any other event. If you buy your copy from the Association of Professional Piercers, you receive a book that I've signed, and 25% of the proceeds go to the organization. Click here for more information.
