Anatomy Consultation for Horizontal Clitoral Hood (HCH) and Triangle Piercings

I performed a consultation for a woman who wanted to know if her anatomy was suitable for Horizontal Clitoral Hood (HCH) and Triangle Piercings.

Hi Elayne.

I have a vertical clit hood piercing and I love it sooo much I want more! I have a good piercer that I really love but he's sooo far away. Thank you sooo much for doing consultations online! I really, really want to get a triangle. Or maybe a horizontal? I hope my pictures are good enough. I'm glad I'll have a better idea of what I can get before I go all the way out to see my piercer.

Thanks!!!

My response:

Hi.

You don't really appear to have any space for an HCH piercing above your VCH, which is where it would normally go, so I don't think you're a candidate for that particular piercing. And, by the way, your VCH appears to be properly placed and the jewelry is a suitable fit.

Orgasm And New Triangle (Female Genital) Piercing

I received a message from a woman who wondered if her new triangle piercing was making it harder for her to achieve orgasm:

Hi Elayne! I hope you're well. I have an orgasm question and I don't know who to ask. I had my VCH done at the end of January. Then I had the triangle done a month ago. It seems since then I have had a harder time coming to orgasm. I haven't lost sensation because I feel like I am so close the entire time I masturbate. It feels great. Sometimes I just can't get over that ledge to the big O. For example I couldn't tonight and was frustrating because I was right there. But I had done it the previous 3 nights within 10-30 mins. Since its only been a month on the triangle do you think there is still some swelling and healing going on? I don't know anyone else who has one to ask. Any insight you can give I would be so so grateful. Thank you!!

My response:

Thanks for your message. Your piercing is still quite new and still in the healing stages. During that time, you can expect the healing process to be ongoing, and until the piercing is fully healed and settled, you won't really know how it will ultimately "perform" for you.

Did you go to one of the piercers on my referrals list, which is on this page of my website: http://piercingbible.com/piercer-referrals ?

If not, you may want to have me do a consultation to determine if your piercing is placed properly for your anatomy and for me to see if you're wearing appropriate jewelry.

Hi Elayne,

Concern about Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH) Piercing: Jewelry Too Short

I received a message from a woman who was concerned about the jewelry in her new VCH piercing:

Hi, yesterday I went and had my VCH piercing and I am a little concerned that the jewellery is too short. The bottom ball is not visible and is hiding quite deeply inside my hood which in turn is pushing the top of the bar upwards (this is a little uncomfortable). I don't think it's a shallow piercing but I'm just wondering if I can change this myself (I have been pierced with quite a small straight bar). I am able to send you some pics if that will help? Thank you.

My response:

Thanks for your message. I can tell you without seeing you that if the jewelry is too tight you MUST get it changed out ASAP!

Unless you are quite familiar with body jewelry and have access to sterile equipment including an insertion taper, then I would suggest you go to a professional to have it changed. However, based on your problem, I'm not sure if you should trust the piercer who put in improperly sized jewelry?

Questions About Male and Female Genital Piercings

I received a message from a couple who had questions about genital piercings:

Hello Elayne,

My wife would like to get a VCH piercing and we went to one local piercer in Cape Coral, FL and he said he couldn't do it.  We had heard it was a good reputable place but it seems like he was nervous or uncomfortable because he didn't examine very long at all, more like a quick look and said sorry.  If I sent you a picture would you be able to tell if you would be able to do it?  I fly with an airline and we can travel to where ever you would be to have it done.  Also, I would like to get a piercing and not sure as to whether I want a PA or or apadravya or dydoe...not concerned so much for my increased sensation but what typically feels better or more enhanced sensation on the woman during intercourse.  Any suggestions?  Thank you for your help.

M

My response:

Upper Frenum (Male Genital Piercing) Healing Problems

I received a message from a man who had questions about optimal placement and healing issues with upper frenums:

Hi. I was wondering if top frenums are frequent for migration and rejection. I have had mine pierced three times and they keep migrating out. The first two times were at 14g and this last time was at 10g. I started with 3 top frenums at 10g but after 2 months I lost one and a few weeks later another one. I'm thinking that the 10g rejection was caused by my switch of jewelry after 2 months of getting them redone. My idea for the frenums is to wear large diameter CBRs in the frenums like c-rings. I wanted to try the jewelry out and wore it for a few weeks.

When I stretched my bottom frenums (which have given me no problems) and the last top frenum to 8g, my piercer has advised not to wear that jewelry for long term wear as they would cause pressure and migration. She was noticing the signs on the 10g CBRs I was wearing at the time of the stretch. Do you think it would be worth trying a fourth time on one of my top frenums that is near the middle of my shaft length or should I just be happy with the bottom ones?

My response:

Hi.

Upper frenums can be harder to heal for many men. There tends to be less pliable tissue on the top and that seems to lead to complications like migration and rejection.

It is possible 12 gauge would be a better starting size. It is large enough to be sufficiently sturdy, but will not cause as much pressure against the tissue as a 10 ga (especially if you don't have a lot of excess skin).

Also how much tissue was pierced between the entry and exit during the initial piercings? Do you have any photos of the piercings when they were new?

Vertical Clit Hood Piercing (VCH) With Short, Straight Barbell (Updated)

Here's a recent consultation I performed for a couple who were considering a Vertical Clit Hood piercing, and then had jewelry issues after the woman was pierced:

Hi Elayne.

My wife had scheduled an appointment for a VCH piercing next week with a piercer in Florida. I am a registered nurse and feel comfortable driving there for this procedure after doing a good bit of research, however, after reading many blogs on your site i have started worrying about surface piercings and worse complications. Should i worry about these things? I hope you will be able to put my mind at ease.

Thanks

My response:

Hi.

If you visit my referrals page: http://piercingbible.com/piercer-referrals you will find the few handfuls of piercers I refer to worldwide. You are wise to consider the skill of the piercer as a VCH piercing is one of the piercings most often botched by inexperienced or poorly trained piercers.

He wrote back:

Thank you for the reply.  Also, is there any truth to gradual desensitization over time after the vch placement due to constant contact?

Thanks again.

Nape (Back of the Neck) Surface Piercing Information

I received a message from a person seeking information about a (Back of the Neck) Surface Piercing:

Hi.

I want to get a nape piercing but everyone tells me that I can't because surface piercings tend to reject and that I'll regret it. What jewelry is best to use for the piercing and what can I do to help it not reject?

My response:

Hi.

It is true that surface piercings have a higher rejection rate than "traditional" body piercings. And it is very important that the tissue is pliable/pinchable. If your skin in that area is really tight and dense, then piercing is not suggested. In addition to optimal placement for your anatomy, and appropriate jewelry, assiduous aftercare is also crucial. They are explained here: http://piercingbible.com/piercing-care

To facilitate healing, you should do saline soaks: http://piercingbible.com/saline-soaks

And also you can use emu oil to soothe and help healing (if you don't object to using an animal product): http://piercingbible.com/emu-oil

Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH) Piercing Jewelry Problem

I received a message from a woman who was concerned about the jewelry in her vertical clit hood (VCH) piercing:

Hi I have a vch piercing I've had it for about 3 months I think . When I first got it done I went to a piercer that has done all my other piercings and I asked him what I could get for 20$ he said anything I want so I chose a genital piercing so I didn't do any research or anything. About 5 days later I was taking a shower and couldn't feel the bottom ball I figured it was normal but I was still a little worried so I looked it up n I read horrible stories n i got really scared I thought I was going to have to go to the e.r I called him the next day and told him what happened and he said to come in and he'll fix it so I did after I read the things on your website I figured I'd need a longer bar when I went in he said the ball got pulled through the wound and healed it inside he had to stick a taper through the hole and push the ball through after a half hr to an hr of pain he finally got it out he was goin to leave the original jewelry in but I said I wanted a longer bar so he put it in and it healed after a few weeks after it was healed the longer bar was getting in the way so I wanted the shorter one back in I went back to him and he switched it he told me to keep an eye on it just incase I was nervous that it would happen again and asked him if their was a middle length he could switch it to and he said there is no middle length it's been fine but I'm still nervous that it will happen again so I check it and its been really weird the top ball disappears and I don't know what I should do it doesn't hurt at all so I think it's healed  I don't know the lengths or gauge I don't want to take it out please help me as soon as you can.

Prince Albert (PA) Piercing Evaluation on Uncircumcised Man

I received a message from an uncircumcised man asking for a piercing evaluation for a Prince Albert (PA) piercing:

Hi,

I got a PA done just over a week ago, and I'm a bit concerned about the positioning. I'm can't see any sign of migration (yet?), but I'm not sure there's enough flesh holding it, and while I don't plan to stretch to jumbo sizes I do want to go up to at least an 8g. I'm uncircumcised, which adds the additional complication of positioning it with my foreskin, so I'm not sure if it could have gone further back or if I'm just unsuited to this piercing. If unsuited, would an apadravya (either converting the PA or healing and getting it done new) be an option, or would you recommend a reverse PA?

Thanks.

My response:

Without being able to manipulate your tissue (see your foreskin in it's "resting" position and also pull the foreskin back) it is hard for me to evaluate whether there is a suitable PA placement option for you that is further away from the lower edge of your urethra.

Nipple (Areola) Piercing Problems

I received this message from a woman concerned about discharge and crusting from her nipple (areola) piercing:

Hi Elayne, I had contacted you a little while ago regarding my nipple piercings. Its taken me a bit to remember too get photos/get decent ones.

To remind you, I have had my nipples pierced since I was 18, so going on 4 years. They are in areola (as shown in the first picture) not nipple. they get crusty just about everyday if I'm lucky its only every couple days, and when moved/lightly pinched to clean the crust off and avoid it going back into the piercing in the process a whiteish creamy liquid comes out. (Shown as best as I could manage in the second picture)

Other possibly pertinent info, I have never had children or been pregnant so the chances of it being a breast milk like substance is very low, especially considering its not even in nipple. My jewelry is and has always been stainless surgical steel. I do not change it ever, I clean it every shower. Do not wear acrylic balls. My gynecologist had been consulted because she had areloa piercing, she said its normal that it happened to her for ten years. Only stopping when she took them out after having children.

I think that's it, I hope it helps...and I mean I have no pain or irritation. It only mildly smells like plugs do once in a blue moon if its really oozing so it makes me think its normal? Please help! End my 4 year span of thinking I'm crazy haha

And also thank you so very much for being willing to help.

Microdermal Piercing (Surface Anchor) Rejecting

I received a message from a person whose surface anchor was beginning to reject:

Hello,

I got a chest microdermal around 9 months ago and the heel/bottom of it is rejecting. I'm getting it removed today and wanted to know what would the proper placement of a chest dermal be? I think I got it to low and all the tissue that was pulling on it was making so that it could not fully sit correctly. I'm just asking about this to see if getting one higher would be better. I also wanted to know if there was another type of piercing I could get there that would achieve the same effect except with better results. I love my dermal so much I'm just sad to say goodbye to it.

Thank you for your time.

Surface anchor beginning to reject

Hello.

I can understand your concern.

Unfortunately, even when everything is done right, surface anchors (the preferred terminology of the Association of Professional Piercers) simply appear to be less of a permanent body modification than traditional body piercings.

They require ongoing care throughout their life span, including regular irrigation to make sure no matter builds up in the channel or under the ornament. And even with this care, sometimes they will tilt and/or surface and reject.

There is no guarantee that repiercing in the area would result in better results. In fact, I think you can expect the same thing to happen again, which would only result in more scar tissue.

Below are some brief excerpts from my book, The Piercing Bible--The Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing
